Welcome, Jazz Dancers!

Welcome to another exciting dance season at KJ Dance! We are so excited to watch your dancer learn, grow, and shine in our Ballroom program this year. Ballroom is a fun and dynamic style that helps dancers develop confidence, musicality, coordination, and performance quality while learning the art of partner dancing.

Ballroom

Our Ballroom classes are energetic, technique-based classes designed to develop coordination, rhythm, posture, footwork, musicality, and partnering skills. Dancers will explore a variety of ballroom styles while learning both individual technique and how to connect and move with a partner. Through age-appropriate progressions, combinations, and choreography, dancers will build confidence, versatility, and strong performance skills while experiencing this exciting style of dance.

What should my dancer wear to class each week?

Ballroom Attire

Please have your dancer dressed and ready for class in the following attire:

Ballroom shoes (see links below)
Any style dance top, or half-top, fringe skirt (see options below)
Jazz pants, tights, biker shorts, or a unitard
Hair pulled back in a neat ponytail or braids, with all hair secured away from the face

Please note: Ballroom shoes are not required for trial classes.

Meet Ms. Sue

Sue Benn was born in Utah and grew up training in a variety of styles, including jazz, ballet, and pom. Her professional career began at age 16, when she won Miss Drill Team Utah, going on to win Miss Drill Team USA International in 1983. Soon after, she toured nationally as a backup dancer for Donny and Marie Osmond before joining the University of Utah Aggiettes, where she performed for two years.
In 1987, Benn became a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, bringing her to Dallas, Texas, which she has called home ever since. During her three years with the DCC, she was part of the prestigious Show Group, touring the globe on USO and DOD tours to places including Korea, Bahrain, Honduras, and Panama. She also served two years as a group leader before shifting her focus to family life, raising three children with her husband.
In 2020, Benn embraced the “second act” of her dance career and began training in International Latin Dance at Dance With Me studios under the guidance of world-class professionals such as Val Chmerkovskiy, Yulia Zagoruychenko, and Ferdinando Iannaccone. Competing in Pro-Am with her partner Ricardo Freire, she has earned numerous first-place titles, including at the WDO Pro-Am Latin International, the South American Open Latin Championship, and the American Open Dance Championships. Now in her fifth year as a competitor, Benn is eager to share her passion and experience with the next generation of dancers.

Will my dancer have a recital at the end of the year?

YES! All Ballroom dancers will participate in the KJ End-of-Year Concert!

If your dancer is enrolled in one Ballroom class each week, they will perform one routine in the concert. This exciting performance is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to showcase everything they have learned throughout the season while building confidence, creating lasting memories, and experiencing the excitement of performing on stage.

Performance schedules and additional concert details will be shared with families as the event approaches. We can't wait to celebrate your dancer's hard work at this special end-of-year event!

What if my dancer wants to take another class each week?

Many of our Ballroom dancers choose to add an additional Ballroom, Jazz, Hip Hop, or technique class to their weekly schedule! These classes pair wonderfully with Ballroom and provide even more opportunities to build technique, confidence, versatility, musicality, and performance skills.

Our KJ faculty carefully designs the class schedule so dancers can often attend classes back-to-back, making it convenient for families. If your dancer would like to add another class, simply take a look at the schedule immediately before or after their current Ballroom class—many times there is a perfect option available!

If you need help finding the best fit, our office staff is always happy to assist with scheduling.

Concert Bonus: Dancers enrolled in additional performing classes will have the opportunity to perform an additional routine in the KJ End-of-Year Concert, giving them even more opportunities to grow, perform, and shine on stage!

Can we ask a friend to join?

Absolutely! Dance is always more fun with friends, and we'd love for your dancer to invite a buddy to join them!

Friends can always try a class for FREE! They will simply create an account at kjdance.com, add their dancer, and select the Drop-In class they'd like to attend. Our faculty will be notified of the trial and will be ready to welcome them.

If your friend loves class, they can easily enroll online or contact our office for assistance. We can't wait to welcome them to the #THEKJWAY family!
