SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chromebook Insurance

MJHS is a One-to-One Technology school. Students will be provided with a Chromebook to use at school and at home for the entire school year. There will be no charge for this, but students will be responsible for any damages that might happen to their assigned device. We highly encourage you to purchase the $30 protection plan that will cover unforeseeable damages. A new device costs $525, a broken screen is $40. It covers up to $525 in damage as long as it isn't intentional damage. VERY worth the cost. You can pay on school cash online or at the school finance office.

Need A Locker?

Please fill out the locker request form if your student is wanting a locker to be assigned to them for the upcoming school year.

Fee Waivers

Administrators will be available to review fee waiver applications on August 10th and 11th from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm and afterwards by appointment only. It is necessary that each family be approved annually; last year’s application will not be valid. Students may receive a fee waiver for one of the following reasons:

  • Family receives

    • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF),

    • Family Employment Program (FEP) or

    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • Student receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for a qualified disability (fees waived for student with disability only)

  • Student qualifies for McKinney-Vento

  • Student is in Foster Care (under Utah or local governmental supervision)

  • Student is in State Custody

  • Student is eligible based on family/household income verification.

Application must be made in person, and one or more of the following must be provided for verification:

  • Benefit verification from the Utah Department of Workforce Services

  • Benefit verification documents from the Social Security Administration

  • The youth in care required intake form and school enrollment letter

  • Family income verification in the form of pay stubs or tax returns

School Lunch

We will continue to use the new system called LINQ Connect for meal services in the 2026–2027 school year. This system will continue to make it easier for families to apply for Free and Reduced Lunch, manage lunch balances, view menus, and more—all through the new LINQ Connect online platform and mobile app.

Attendance Office Announcement Attendance Office Announcement

Check Out Procedures

  • Once students have come to school they may not leave without a parent first checking them out through the attendance office. In order to ensure the safety of our students, a parent or authorized adult must come into the office to check the student out.

  • Students who leave school without checking out through the front office will be considered sluffing.

  • Students returning to school from an appointment or coming late must check in at the attendance office before going to class.

  • All Nebo junior high schools are closed campuses. Students may not leave the campus during the school day without being checked out by a parent or with the approval of a school administrator. Those students who need to leave regularly (such as going home for lunch) may obtain an ongoing pass from the school administrator.

  • To maximize student learning opportunities, students will not be called out of class before a parent is at the school to check them out.

Tardies

  • Students are expected to arrive on time, ready to participate and learn. A student who arrives at school after the 7:55am bell is considered tardy. A parent must directly contact the school to excuse a first-period tardy.

  • During the school day, students will be marked tardy if they are not in their classrooms at the time the bell rings. Students with more than 3 tardies in a class will be required to:

  • Serve lunch detention.

  • Forfeit the privilege of attending dances and celebrations.

Detention

  • Detention will be served during lunch, under the supervision of an administrator or other staff member.

  • Phones are not allowed during detention, and detention credit will not be granted if phones are visible or used.

  • Students will be able to eat their lunch during detention time.

  • Disruptive behavior or failure to follow directions will result in detention credit not being granted.

  • Students who have truancies or more than 3 tardies in a class will not be allowed to participate in school dances or citizenship celebrations.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

For parents new to MJHS, our pick up/drop off zone is not as wide as the middle school zone. Because of this, we only have one pick up/drop off lane. The other lane is to be used for drive thru only. Please only stop in the pick up/drop off lane, to ensure the safety and efficiency of the process. If you arrive early, please feel free to enter the parking area. Students will be able to quickly get to the parking area safely by using the cross walk and it will not cause a traffic back up on 1200 N.

For students riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards, please remind them that they will be responsible for securing/locking their own devices (our bike lock area will be open, but there will be racks for them to use). We also ask students not to ride their devices on campus, with all the traffic at pick up and drop off, it is safer to walk them to the locking area once they arrive. As a reminder, state law 41-6a-1115.5 states that children under 14 years old are not allowed to operate any E-bike on public roads, trails, or property without adult supervision. Additionally, no batteries from E-bikes or E-scooters can be brought into the school.

Student Electronic Device Policy Student Electronic Device Policy

Student Electronic Device Policy (Cell Phones)

From the newly revised Nebo Student Electronic Device Policy: “Nebo School District promotes an environment conducive to teaching, learning, and student wellbeing. The [School] Board recognizes that electronic devices can be both valuable tools and sources of distraction. The Board also recognizes that prolonged time on social media and frequent notifications from personal electronic devices can have detrimental effects on students’ mental health and academic success. In order to maintain an effective learning environment, to promote respect and courtesy among students, and to facilitate student wellbeing, the Board adopted [an updated] policy governing student use of electronic devices.”

Brief summary of the policy as it applies to junior high schools throughout Nebo District:

  • Cell phones, smart watches and other personal electronic devices are not to be used during school hours. Cell phones must be stowed away in a backpack, purse, or bag, secured by the student, and set to a mode where notifications cannot be received.

  • If a student needs to communicate with a parent/guardian, the student may use their cell phone in either the front office or counseling office with permission.

  • Students may use an electronic device

    • To respond to an imminent threat to the health or safety of an individual;

    • To respond to a school-wide emergency;

    • To use the SafeUT Crisis Line;

    • For a student’s IEP or Section 504 accommodation plan; or

    • To address a medical necessity.

We look forward to the continued positive impacts this state law and district policy will have on the wellbeing of our students!
