Reminders, Updates and Announcements!
Here are a few reminders and updates.
- Students should bring their chromebooks to school fully charged every day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences - If you did not sign up for a parent teacher conference, but would still like to schedule a time to meet to discuss how your child is doing in school, please email me and let me know.
Remember to fill out and return the permission slip for the field trip to the Armory Center for the Arts on 10/31 @ 9:30 am. The bus will be leaving at 9:00 am. If you would like to chaperone for the trip please let me know. There will be a Halloween parade in the morning at 8:30 am. Students who would like to participate in the parade, can wear their costumes to school. We will go first in the parade, then the students will change into their uniforms before going on the field trip. If possible, have your child wear their uniform underneath their costume for fast and easy changing since we will be short on time. Students are not allowed to wear their costumes to the field trip, so it is important that they wear their school clothes under their costumes or bring a change of clothes for the field trip.
- FREE Tutoring - PUSD will begin providing after school tutoring at school sites including Willard. If you are interested in having your child participate, please register by clicking on the link below. Teacher interviews are currently underway, and the goal is to have everyone hired and trained to start during the week of November 6th. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUMp2Omj0RsQdQI3Jlfxh2UOGpvPGpi2pNuGljLKcxysDyLA/viewform

- Space Exploration Project - As a part of this unit, students will have the opportunity to work with a partner or small group to research and learn about a space entity, tool, or an instrument that has been used to improve our understanding of the universe. Students have chosen their own topics and will create a Google Slide Presentation with factual information, images and a short video clip. They will also design and build a 3D model representation of their topic. The model can be created with items found around the house such as cardboard, clay, aluminum foil, straws, lollipop sticks, toothpicks, bottle caps, yarn, etc. They can bring these items to class, and I will allow class time for them to build their models. Store bought kits should not be purchased for this project. This is a class project, but the students are encouraged to gather and bring in building materials for their projects. Their projects will be due Thursday, Novemeber 16. I encourage you to ask your child about their project and the progress that they are making in class to complete it.
Social Studies: European Exploration - We will explore what the European explorers took to and from the New World during the Age of Exploration.
Science: In class, we will study the conservation of matter which is the idea that regardless of the type of change that occurs when heating, cooling, or mixing substances, the total weight (amount of matter) is conserved.
In the science lab, students will continue to study Stars and the Solar System.
