Parenting Tips and Information
For many families, changing a child’s diaper becomes a major battle. This routine is one that is often not as scheduled or predictable as other activities. It is often unpleasant for adults and not an activity that the young child enjoys. As your child grows older and becomes more mobile and interested in interacting with his world, diaper changing might become even more difficult. While it can be challenging, it is also an opportunity for building a positive, nurturing and responsive relationship with your child. Several proven strategies can help to make diapering a positive and relationship building experience for both of you.

Super Friend Academy
Hello WCFCC Families,
We are excited to share with you our Super Friend Academy program will begin on September 30th. This program focuses on Social/Emotional learning and transitions to preschool. Super Friend Academy will take place in person at 89 Middle Street (the old Abigail Adams School) and will have 2 cohorts.
This monthly transition to preschool program prepares children for the routines and structure found in the preschool setting. Components of Positive Behavior Strategies (PBS) will be embedded into programing. Strategies include: teaching and encouraging expected behavior, establishing classroom routines and rituals using visual supports and using school wide expectations and classroom rules. Students that attend will participate in an abbreviated PreK day which includes circle time, a story, and activity centers. A snack from home should be brought with them to have during our daily snack time. Please try to keep this snack very small as we only have a short amount of time to have our snack. One drink and one snack is sufficient. A little baggie of goldfish or cheerios would do the trick. This program is appropriate for 3 and 4 yr. old's that are currently not enrolled in a daycare or preschool setting. Families may choose the 2 day program which meets on M/W from 11:15-12:30 or the T/Th program that meets from 9:00-10:15
To sign up visit the WCFCC website.
Just a reminder this program is for Weymouth residents only! This program is a monthly commitment and requires parents to remain with their children during programming. Please enter through door #24
Story/Time Playgroup
Story Time Playgroup helps your child's development in many ways.
Storytime has many benefits for children other than promoting early literacy and language development. It can help develop their concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity.
Play based learning recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in meaningful and enjoyable content. As children play, they engage their imagination, take risks and learn problem solving to support their development.
A music- rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving bring serious benefits to children as they progress to more formal learning.
Story Time with Zoey
Join us for Story Time with Zoey at the WCFCC Center.
Storytime's have always been vehicles for fostering early literacy skills, and they can help with your child(ren)’s social emotional development too. Zoey is a four legged friend who will provide comfort and encouragement to our littlest readers and help to instill a love of reading while building upon their social emotional development.
This program is limited to 8 families and sign-up is required.
Music and Movement
Music and Movement helps your child develop their motor skills and social emotional development.
Music and Movement activities engage young children in the learning process and help develop things like motor skills, coordination and balance. They also improve children's language and social-emotional development.
Mindful Movement
Give your child the gift of balance through our Mindful Movements programs. Our yoga programs help children learn poses that increase strength, flexibility and coordination as well as breathing techniques. We offer yoga for children ages birth - 3 year old's.
Each week the children learn new poses that represent the characters in our weekly story. All programs end with a Savasana. Savasana is the final resting pose at the end of each yoga program.
Namaste is how we say hello & good bye. It is how we thank each other for a wonderful yoga class.
STEM
STEM helps our preschoolers to get started with learning, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). STEM helps children learn key skills including problem solving and creativity. This program will help you learn how to incorporate STEM into your infant, toddler, and preschoolers life while they play, explore, and create.
This program is limited to 6 families and sign-up is required.
Gross Motor Development
Both our Hop Skip & Jump program as well as our Just Play E.I. help your child to develop their large muscle groups and work on their balance and coordination.
Physical development
Gross motor skills help children develop their posture, balance, and coordination. They also help children learn to move smoothly and efficiently from one position to another.
Gross motor skills involve the large muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Some examples of gross motor skills include:
Standing
Walking
Running
Sitting upright
Jumping
Twisting your torso
Bending over
Moving or twisting your neck
Raising your arms and hands
You can support your child's gross motor development with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. For example, you can provide obstacle courses for crawling infants and sports for older children.
Just Play E.I.

The newly remodeled playroom is a bright cheery indoor play space for your littles to play and use their large muscle groups and to work on their social emotional development.
The Early Intervention play space has lots of fun ride-ons and active indoor structures for your littles to enjoy climbing on.

Little Learners Literacy Program
Hello WCFCC Families,
We are so excited to introduce our Little Learners Literacy Program. This program is designed to build a strong relationship with our public library, add exposure to the library expectations and stimulate a lifelong love for reading.
A child's first library card is special. It opens the door to a world of reading. Studies show that children who use a library and are read to at home will do better in school.
Our goal is to have each child/family obtain a library card and visit the library regularly to take books out. To participate in this program please see one of our WCFCC staff to receive a punch card for your child, articles about the importance of reading, reading strategies and the impact it has on your child during these early years.
Each time you visit the library to take out books your child will receive one punch to their card from the librarian. Upon completion of 10 punches to their card they will return their card to the WCFCC Staff and receive a free book. We hope you create many wonderful memories spending time reading with your children.
If you would like to participate in this program please see one of the CFCE Staff.
