Tiger Tale
January 6, 2026
Welcome Back Tigers!
Welcome back, Dewey families! We hope your winter break was restful and rejuvenating. This week, we kicked off the new year with a Welcome Back Assembly and are spending time reviewing our common area expectations to create a shared understanding of our PAWS and the ways we contribute to a safe, supportive school community.
This month, Dewey Elementary is focusing on identity and belonging as part of our positive school culture. Students will engage in schoolwide read-alouds and classroom activities that celebrate what makes each child unique and how we work together as a community.
Our TK–3 students will read The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, while our 4–6 students will explore I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes. Both texts connect to our PAWS expectations:
- Practice Respect
- Act Responsible
- Work Together
- Safety First
We look forward to partnering with families as we support students in recognizing their strengths and sense of belonging at Dewey.
Warm regards,
Sabrina Parsley, principal

Attendance - Every Day Counts!
We are so happy to have you all back at school! Getting back into the regular morning routine can be tough after a long break – especially with rainy weather thrown in – so make sure to allow enough time in the morning for the trip to school and dropoff. We are looking forward to a great second half of the year!

Welcome to a New Year with RaiseRight!
We are excited to kick off the new year by celebrating the impact of the RaiseRight program at Dewey. In 2024, participants earned $800, and in 2025, that number jumped to an impressive $1,470. That growth shows just how powerful everyday shopping can be when our community participates.
Since the start of the 2025 school year alone, RaiseRight participants have already earned $820 total. One class has earned $140, and one family alone has earned $130, with $26 going directly into their family account to help cover school expenses.
Looking ahead, the 5th grade field trip is scheduled for mid-March, and the 6th grade field trip will take place in mid-April. At this time, there are no additional fundraisers planned for either grade. While organized fundraising may be complete, families can still use RaiseRight to help make up any remaining balance.
That gives families two to three more months to earn funds through RaiseRight and apply them toward field trips and other school expenses, all without spending anything extra.
If you are not signed up yet, it’s not too late to join and start earning. Every purchase helps support our classrooms and families.

Be A Tiger Helper … Save All Little Toiletry Samples
As you are traveling this holiday season, please keep in mind that Dewey collects all small toiletries that you may receive at your hotels (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower caps, soap, toothpaste, sewing kits, etc.). Another great place to pick up some extra toiletries is your dental office. The free toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss they offer you are great items to donate as well. Please drop off your donations in the office or to Mrs. Ruswinkle in room 9. All items donated will be sent to the women and children at Wellspring Women’s Center.
Thank you!
