Title One Meeting

You are invited to attend our Annual Title One Meeting to discuss the guidelines of being a Title One school as well as offer ways to support families during these uncertain times. Safety remains a top priority during the pandemic; therefore, our annual meeting will look different this year. Due to DHEC’s guidelines regarding social distancing and large gatherings, we will move to a virtual approach. To that end, our annual meeting will take place via Zoom, Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the school.

We will send your Zoom invite via your email. Thanks.

New to the Knoll: WKES Title One Family Liaison

Hello! My name is Missy Freeman and I am your Family Liaison here at WKES! The Family Liaison is someone who bridges the gap between home and school, to help support you and your child’s education. I know that these times are very challenging, and I want you to know that you have extra support here at school to help you through it.

There may be times when you are not comfortable with speaking to the teacher or administrator, that’s where I can help working directly with you to make your interactions with school as positive as possible. We will also have a Family Resource Center that will have extra learning tools for you to check out and work with your child at home, if you need them. If you need anything please don’t hesitate to contact me at 803-821-4587 or mfreeman@lexington1.net.

School Improvement Council Nominations

White Knoll Elementary School

School Improvement Council

It is time to nominate individuals for our School Improvement Council! We need your voice as we continue to plan and implement new things during these uncertain times. Your input will serve as a voice for our White Knoll Community. The WKES School Improvement Council (SIC) serves as an advisory committee along with Ms. Nicole Mitchell, Principal and the WKES faculty.

This year, our SIC goals will encompass the following:

  • Engage in intentional conversations about the overall safety (physical, emotional, social) of each student at WKES - Hybrid or Virtual to promote success.

  • to support and encourage families and community members to be strong partners in the learning of all students at WKES.

  • to engage in data-based conversations linked to the effective implementation of our School Based Plan to increase student achievement

Please consider being an active part of this committee at WKES. You may nominate yourself or a trusted family member or friend who would be willing to serve the community, students and staff of WKES. Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2020. Please click on the link below.

New Protocols for Families

New Grading Protocol For Lexington One

In Lexington County School District One, we recognize that providing feedback to students is an essential part of the learning journey. All students are expected to perform at high levels and revise their own work as they progress toward mastery of content and skills. In an effort to “Empower each child to design the future,” we have redesigned what our grading system will look like for all elementary students in grades K-5 through the use of Feedback Driven Progress Reporting.

Please click on the letter below explaining Feedback Driven Progress reporting.

Feedback Driven Progress Reporting - English

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at 803.821.4500.

MORNING PROTOCOL

Safety: Morning Drop-off Procedures

Thank you so much for your understanding as we implemented our new Access Control System (Buzz-in Door). The safety of our school is always a top priority for us.

As a gentle reminder, ALL doors will be locked at 7:45 am and visitors will be required to “buzz in” to gain access to the building through a closed circuit monitoring system. After 7:45 am, parents are required to walk students in the building, as you will need to enter through the new Buzz-in System.

Please adhere to the following changes for the new year!

  • All students and adults must wear masks in the building.
  • We will not have parent volunteers in the building until further notice.

Thank you again for your cooperation as we continue to keep everyone safe.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

It's time to schedule your parent/teacher conferences for the 1st semester! Building a lasting relationship with your child’s teachers is vital to the academic success of your child. You will be receiving more information on how to schedule your individual time with your child’s teacher. During your conference, you will be discussing your child’s academic progress at the current time as well as strategies to support the learning at home. Just as a reminder, to protect the safety of everyone, parent/teacher conferences will be virtual this year.

Dress Code

Parents, please make sure to read and review the guidelines regarding the student dress code on the district's website and in the student handbook. The school does not provide clothing for dress code violations. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing to their student. A few reminders: shorts should be finger tip length, two fingers minimum for straps on tank tops or shirts, and NO flip flops on PE day.

Contact Information

Please make sure that we have the most up to date contact information for your family. You will, on occasion, be contacted for attendance, lunch balances, upcoming events, and most importantly emergencies. If we don't have the correct information , you may miss a call, email, or text. Please make sure you don't have a block on the numbers coming from WKES or Lexington School District One. We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is vital for the success of each child with face to face OR virtual instruction. During our Hybrid Model, student attendance will be taken on the face to face days as well as the work they submit during their e-learning time during the other two days. It is important for your child to complete the assigned work when it is due to be marked "Present" for the days they are not physically in the building.

Just like last year---- If your child is absent for any reason you will have 3 days after the child returns to turn in doctor's excuse or parent note. Any excuse given to the office after the 3 days will not count toward an excused absence.***

All excuses from parents, doctors, etc., may be emailed or faxed. You have three days to submit! Please submit to wkes@lexington1.net.

DID YOU KNOW??

Making a threat — whether in person, through a telephone call, a text message, an email or even a social media post — could mean a criminal offense for a student because of a relatively new law. In May of 2018, an amendment to the S.C. Code of Laws created the new crime “Student Threats” (Section 16-17-425).

As school officials, we must report any student threat and investigate. Your child’s safety is too important for us to risk assuming someone is joking or that it is just kids being kids.
