I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Fall Break! October seemed to fly by so quickly with all of the excitement that was happening in our building. We wrapped up our first grading quarter and completed our ILEARN Checkpoint 1 testing. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week with dress-up days and prizes every afternoon. Our kindergarteners recognized Fire Safety Week with a visit from the Drewersburg Fire Department and their trucks. We welcomed author Shawn Pryor to our building. He was a fascinating man with wonderful stories that were enjoyed by everyone. We also celebrated Halloween with our annual Trunk-or-Treat event and our Halloween Parade. We saw some creative costumes...I think the teachers had as much fun as the students.

I would especially like to thank our APPLES organization for bringing us a performance of Sleepy Hollow, which was produced by Madcap Productions, a puppet theatre from Cincinnati. The students were engaged, laughing, and interacting with the actors and puppets. It was the perfect way to celebrate Halloween and to send students off on their Fall Break. This is just one of the many events our APPLES have planned for our students this school year.

At the beginning of the month, we kicked off our school-wide PBIS program (Positive Behavioral Incentives and Supports). A letter was sent home outlining the purpose of the program and how it benefits the students and our school. Basically, it focuses on preventing bad behaviors, teaching positive behaviors in all areas of our building, and providing a support system for all students, rather than relying solely on punishments. The students earn tickets for their positive behaviors and good deeds, and those tickets can be cashed in each Friday for prizes at our Viking Sailor store, or the students can choose to save their tickets to purchase larger prizes later. Our bus drivers are even participating in the program, and we are already seeing a positive shift in behaviors in the building. This is another program that our APPLES are helping to support!

Lastly, I would like to thank all of the parents who came to our parent/teacher conferences this year. Building those relationships between parents and teachers is so important for a child's education. If you ever have questions or concerns about your child's progress or you just want to check in, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or contact me in the office. My door is always open, and I am always happy to help.
