Learning to Teach...Teaching to Learn!

The Spanish I classes have taken a break this week, not only from learning grammar, but also from their regular teacher. Instead, they've been instructed by Mr. Carlos Reynoso-Tellez, a student-teacher from University of Minnesota Morris who has been observing in Mrs. Nordquist's classroom this year. Students have spent the week learning a little about the regions of the world that speak Spanish (including the stations activity pictured above), as well as the cultural significance of the Day of the Dead holiday.

Next week, students will participate in creating ofrendas to incorporate what they've learned about the holiday, as well as research that they've done on famous Spanish speakers. A reminder to Spanish I students to bring their shoebox for their projects!

Westside + High School= Great Connection!

SHS Seniors have been creating memorable experiences not only for themselves, but for students at Westside Elementary by volunteering in classrooms with students each week.

HS students help in reading and math groups, assist with large groups during recess and library time, and even got to participate in a field trip to the fire station. The seniors report that they are enjoying their experiences and look forward to the time they get to spend with the elementary students, serving as positive role models.
