Our Next Steps

Following BOY Data Digs by region we know that our next steps are outlined in the graphic above. When we implement personalized instruction with fidelity (30-49 minutes per week in ELA and also Math, with a 70% or better pass rate) and offer students coherence across tiers with scaffolds and small group face to face lessons as outlined in the reports and our students meet their stretch growth (set goals with students now) only then will we see increased student proficiency.

We must commit to doing this every week and intentionally plan to support students during intervention in their specific area of need.

BOY decks

The BOY Data Decks are available in the On Target for Success SharePoint and have been shared with Regional Superintendents. Professional Learning can be requested on the Curriculum Associates PL Request Form if school teams would like this brought to their schools. Work with your principal to ensure that requests are not duplicated. If you have questions about your data, please let me know.

Diagnostic Reports and Home Literacy Letters

Schools will provide Home Literacy Reports, following administration of the universal reading screener, to K-3 students scoring below the 15th percentile and are recommended for 16th-40th percentile.

These reports provide reading proficiency guidance, reading activities to use at home, and information on specific reading interventions and supports being provided as outlined in TCA 49-1-905(d). Please be sure that the iReady Diagnostic Reports are sent home to parents along with this letter to inform parents of their student's scores. Keeping parents informed of their child's progress is extremely important when students are struggling.

Families can access the iReady Family Portal at home to review their child's progress and also find tips they can use at home to encourage their child. Linked below are the family letters with our unique District code (it's new annually). If you need additional language templates they are available in Success Central and you need to transfer the District code to the template prior to sending home to parents.

MSCS Family Information Session-iReady MSCS Family Information Session-iReady

MSCS Family and Community Engagement Office is offering a timely topic for our families and we would love if you would share this information with them as an additional support. We will have Curriculum Associates iReady Professional Learning Consultant, Kai Thompson on hand to assist with answering questions after a short presentation of how families can use the platform at home.

Reconstitution of Student Plans

We need to ensure an accurate baseline for the number of student plans for the 25-26 school year. Many schools have reconstituted student intervention plans but several have not. Students receiving Tier 2/3 intervention must have an active plan in TNPulse.

Advanced Reporting Notes

The B05 Advanced Report is available in TNPulse Advanced Reports to users who log in with TDOE SSO. The vendor has updated B05 report to include a B05b which is the file that users should access until any further updates are shared.

Pearson aimswebPlus Office Hours Pearson aimswebPlus Office Hours

Lou Ellen Marlott is offering office hours to extend support to users who need to troubleshoot issues with Pearson aimswebPlus. You will need a question formulated and a specific student or teacher to review together. This is not a training, but you are welcome to join and listen if you are not sure what to ask.

DYS Coding DYS Coding

Please enter DYS Coding in PowerSchool now that the fall screening window has concluded.

DYS02-all students who were screened for Characteristics of Dyslexia

DYS03-any student who was screened and meets the deficit of 50% or more on all subtests indicating that the student will receive dyslexia specific intervention

Work with your attendance secretary to get the DYS coding entered into PowerSchool. TDOE is monitoring if coding has been entered.

Tracking Communication

Best practice is to track communication attempts with families regarding ILP-Ds. New this year, TDOE will shift to an opt out rather than opt in on the support. With or without the parent approval MSCS is responsible for providing dyslexia specific intervention support to the student demonstrating characteristics of dyslexia.

The ILP-D Family Information linked below can be extremely helpful as the communication is sent home to parents, but please consider meeting with families so that they recognize this plan is not an IEP nor is it a formal evaluation for dyslexia, but rather that their child is demonstrating foundational literacy deficits aligned to characteristics of dyslexia.
