📸 Fall Photo Day
We had a successful Fall Photo Day and want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents who volunteered and supported the event. If your child missed photo day, don’t worry—our make-up photo day is scheduled for mid October.
🤝 Meet Ms. Grace, Our New Parent Coordinator
We’re excited to welcome Ms. Grace, our new Parent Coordinator! She is working hard every day to support morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, and lunch periods.

She can help ensure that the IC settings are correct.
📚 Volunteer Opportunity: Classroom Library Organizing
We are looking for volunteers to help organize classroom libraries on an upcoming Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If you're interested and available, please reach out to Ms. Grace at riveg3@milwaukee.k12.wi.us —we would love your support!
📅 October Begins – Monthly Calendar
October is here! Please take a moment to review our October family calendar. It includes important dates for events, field trips, and more.
⏰ Upcoming Half Day – Plan Ahead
Please note that Wednesday, October 8 is a shortened day of school. School will begin at the regular time and will dismiss early at 2:15 pm.
There will be no CLC programming on that day.
K3 childcare will continue as regularly scheduled.
👩🏫 Parent-Teacher Conferences
October also brings Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Tuesday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 15. Next week’s Monday Message will include sign-up instructions for your 15-minute conference with your child’s teacher. We look forward to partnering with you to support your child’s learning!
🎉 Holiday & Celebration Policy
La Escuela Fratney follows a school-wide holiday and celebration policy grounded in culturally responsive teaching. While we celebrate learning and community in meaningful ways, we do not celebrate Halloween at school. This means students and staff do not wear costumes. At times, we may have spirit weeks or dress-up days connected to curriculum and learning goals. As a reminder, we also follow a healthy snack policy—please do not send candy or soda to school at any time. [Insert link to Holiday Policy here]
🚌 Field Trips Are Learning Days
Please check the monthly calendar for field trip dates. Field trips are an important part of the curriculum, and all students are expected to attend, as they are considered regular school days and valuable learning experiences.
📊 Attendance Matters
Our current daily attendance rate is 93%, and we are grateful for your partnership in getting students to school every day. Our goal is to reach 95% attendance, as students benefit most when they are present consistently. Every day matters—our teachers are leading important lessons in Spanish, Math, Reading, Writing, and more. When students miss school, they miss learning.Thank you for being a part of our school community. We appreciate your continued support, partnership, and involvement.

🎉 Política de Celebraciones y Fiestas
La Escuela Fratney sigue una política escolar de celebraciones basada en una enseñanza culturalmente receptiva.
Aunque celebramos el aprendizaje y la comunidad de muchas maneras significativas, no celebramos Halloween en la escuela. Esto significa que los estudiantes y el personal no deben venir disfrazados. MPS visitor policies are designed to keep students and staff safe

Every day, MPS staff are working to make schools safe and positive for students and staff. Respect is the key to a positive school environment inside MPS buildings and on school grounds. When students, families, and staff show respect for one another, teaching and learning can take place and our schools can be successful. We encourage everyone to show respect by:
Remaining calm
Using kind language
Listening to and following staff instructions
Working toward solutions together
Visitor Policy and Procedures
The safety of students and staff is a top priority in the district. Because we welcome families in schools, we want everyone to understand the procedures for visiting MPS buildings. This will help everyone know what to expect and make visits go more smoothly.
All visitors must:
Schedule any meetings with school staff in advance.
Visitors are limited to TWO per student for meetings, conferences, and classroom visits unless approved by the building administrator or designee.
Use the designated main entrance.
Report to the office/security desk.
Show a form of identification. Everyone age 14 and older must present a school ID, driver license, or other photo ID.
Sign in and out on the MPS Visitor Record.
Be escorted to and from the requested location.
Wear/display the MPS Visitor Pass at all times while in the school.
Return the Visitor Pass to the office/security desk and sign out.
Student Behavior Concerns
To protect our students, if anyone has a concern about student behavior, the behavior must be reported to a staff member and/or the child’s teacher or further action. No one should attempt to confront, discipline, or punish another parent or guardian’s child. The district has many procedures in place along with a Student Code of Conduct that describes disciplinary actions. Misbehavior and violations of the code of conduct will be handled according to district processes in place. The Student Code of Conduct can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook on Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline at mpsmke.com/rights.

There will be one calendar for the whole district again this year. Please review this calendar before making plans for trips or vacations. Students must be in school 95% of the time or more which means they can only miss 1 day a month the whole school year. Students who miss more than 10 days of school a year fall behind academically and socially. Make a plan now to be in school every day on time.
