We had another wonderful week in first grade! We enjoyed going to the library this week to check out books. We want to thank Zuri’s mom for giving a goody bag to each child in our homeroom; such a thoughtful and kind gesture! We enjoyed our game day today! Perhaps we win win the Village Plaza Lunch Challenge again!

On Monday we will send home student work for Tuesday & Wednesday. We will have everything printed for you. We will also be sending home books in a bag. These bags will have both English and Spanish books in them. Please keep these book bags in backpacks when not in use so we don’t lose any. We appreciate your cooperation on this. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the extra hour we get on Sunday!

Warm regards,

Ms. Hartness & Ms. Vicky

Dear Families,

We had a wonderful week! The students thoroughly enjoyed working on their family posters. Our next step is for the students to share their posters with one another in the classroom.

This week:

Reading: Students read on the Raz-Kids platform, where they listened, read, and answered a quiz after each book. They were introduced to the vowel "U."

Writing: Students created pattern books using the vocabulary learned in class, including all the vowels.

Language: Students continued working on their family project and identified the parts of a book: portada, contraportada, lomo, autor, and ilustrador.

Math: Students compared numbers up to 99 and used their understanding of place value to identify two-digit numbers.

Science: Students asked and answered questions about the weather, using the phrase "¿Qué tiempo hace?"

Next week:

Reading: After listening to a story, the students identified the characters in the book and filled out a graphic organizer.

Writing: Students label pictures with the vowel "U" and use the vocabulary to write short sentences.

Language: Students prepare oral presentations for their family projects.

Math: In Unit 2, students solve "Add To" and "Take From, Result Unknown" word problems. They write addition and subtraction equations to represent story problems and explain their reasoning orally.

Science: Students practice asking and answering questions about the weather.
