Parent Teacher Conference

Please reach out to your child teacher to schedule a conference on Tuesday Nov. 4th between 11:30 and 2:30.

Buffalo Public School Townhalls Buffalo Public School Townhalls

Parent Townhalls

BPS's new superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is hosting Townhalls. He is trying to determine what parents want from the schools. He is trying to find ways to get parents to get students in his schools. If anyone can go to be a voice for Charter parents it would be wonderful.

Health Guidance for Going to School Health Guidance for Going to School

Showing up to school every day is critical for children’s well-being, engagement and learning.

Make sure to send children to school if they are:

• Generally healthy and well.

• Participating in usual day-to-day activities.

Children can even go to school if they:

• Have a mild cold, which may include a runny nose and/or cough.• Have eye drainage without fever, eye pain or eyelid redness.

• Have a mild stomachache.

• Have a mild rash with no other symptoms.

• Have head lice. Though they are annoying and should be treated, lice are not a reason to exclude a child from school.

• Haven’t had a fever overnight and they have not taken fever-reducing medicine during that time. Avoid keeping children at home unless they are too sick to participate. Note that in most situations, a health-care provider’s note is not needed to return.

If your child has a compromised immune system or is at high risk for complications from common illnesses, please talk to your school (school nurse if available) about developing a plan with you and your child's health-care provider to keep your child healthy and safe while attending school.

Children may also avoid school due to anxiety (symptoms may include decreased appetite, feeling tired, stomachache, headache etc). If you are worried that your child may be suffering from anxiety, talk with your teacher, the school nurse, social worker or other school staff to discuss the challenge and identify what can help your child stay in school.

Safety Drills

At our school, student safety is always our top priority. Throughout the year, we practice different types of safety drills—such as fire, shelter in place, and lockdown drills—so that everyone knows what to do in an emergency. Each year we need to conduct:

  • Fire Drills - We have completed 6 successful drills.
  • Lock Down Drills
  • Early Release Drill
  • Shelter in place Drills

Please reassure your student that these drills are to practice, and nothing to be afraid of.

Lockdown Drills

A lockdown drill helps us practice what to do if we ever need to secure the building from a threat. This is most like a safety concern in the school building. During these drills, teachers guide students to move away from doors and windows, stay quiet, and wait calmly until it’s safe.

We take care to explain each drill in a calm, age-appropriate way so that students understand it’s a practice and not something to be afraid of. Our goal is to help everyone feel prepared and confident, not scared.

Thank you for talking with your child about the importance of these safety routines and reassuring them that these drills are simply one of the many ways we work together to keep our school safe.

We will be conducting Lockdown Drills on 11/13, 12/8, 2/25 and 4/2,

I will send a reminder message and also let you know how the drill went after each event.
