Finishing Strong!
May is a crazy time in the library--inventory, test prep, testing training, etc.! We are finishing the last library lesson cycle for the year, and we are enjoying cooperative games and marble runs with grades 3-5 and some inclusive stories with grades K-2 about emotions and characters with disabilities (SEL connections).
Kindergarten: How to Draw a Happy Cat by Ethan T. Berlin (happiness)
First Grade: Grumpycorn by Sarah McIntyre (anger/frustration/friendship)
Second Grade: Rescue and Jessica by Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes (amputee/service dog)
I'm also including some "May the 4th" resources, digital breakouts, and choice boards that you may enjoy below.

As you may recall, we did "book spine poetry" in April in the library with grades 3-5 (check out the Padlet!). I just wanted to reshare this link so you can see some of the fantastic, creative poems that our students created over the past several weeks. I was so impressed, and I definitely encourage you to try this in your own classrooms!

Battle of the Books Update
Our Battle of the Books team has worked so hard this season, and we are SO proud of their efforts! They came in 4th place in the region out of 8 schools, so we were very excited for a first effort! A special thank you to Mrs. Casey Rhodes and Mrs. Ashley Griner (formerly Ms. Tawney) who have supported this team all year and helped make our team the best it can be!
If you have a current third or fourth grader who may be interested in joining the team next year, here is the book list for next year. Kids who do the best typically start reading the books over the summer. It is recommended that they read each book at least once, preferably more than once, to ensure the information "sticks", so getting an early start is a HUGE benefit! You can also send them down to me if they have questions. We will have an interest meeting in September to begin our team, just like we did this year, and I'll share that info via ClassDojo and social media when the time comes. Thanks!
STAFF BOOK CLUB--Only Two More Meetings This School Year!
Friends who want to join in on the fun, we will be meeting either May 24th or 25th at 4pm @ El Mexicano in Newport to discuss our May title, and then we only have one more for this year! If you are interested in continuing for next year, we can choose our own books once the NC Humanities list is done, and we are always happy to have new folks join us!

Tech Tidbits...
End of Year Closeout for Technology and Library Books:
Here is a document to help with closeout procedures for devices and tech. We are setting a timeline and discussing this with our MTAC committee on Tuesday, and will have firm deadlines after that meeting. All student library books are due back by May 19th, 2023, and I will work on sending out late notices to students and families after that date if books are still out. Teachers may continue to checkout until the end of the year.
Wrapping Up Your School Year--a.k.a. "Digital Spring Cleaning"!
This time of year is a great time to take inventory of how you have organized your digital files and tech tools. It is a good time to go through and clean out old files, reorganize things to help it make sense for you next fall, and remove old student work that is no longer relevant so it's not clogging your Drive and making things harder for you to find. Here are some resources on end-of-year tech housekeeping to hopefully make your lives easier in August!

Staff Survey:
Mr. Daniels and I are working to create some great tech PD opportunities for our staff, but we want to make sure what we are offering is what you actually WANT, so please fill out this short survey so we know what you want and need for this year! CLICK HERE
