Attendance Update: Winter Weather = Perfect Record Attendance Update: Winter Weather = Perfect Record

Roscoe was not enjoying navigating the snow.

Winter weather has officially attended school more consistently than anyone else this week. With closures Monday through Wednesday, it seems Mother Nature has been running the schedule. While we’ve all enjoyed the extended winter break (and maybe perfected the art of hot chocolate consumption), it’s time to start thinking about reclaiming our routines.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the SPS Facilities/Maintenance Team and the Town, road conditions cooperated, and we were able to welcome everyone back on Thursday, February 26th. To help ensure continuity of learning in the event of more snow or weather-related disruptions, students should bring their devices home each day beginning Friday, February 27th. In the event of a virtual day, the information LINKED HERE was shared with students in Google Classroom.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and good humor as we navigate the winter weather together — and remember, learning always wins in the end! Below are some highlights from the month that were not shared in the mid-month memo.

Keep your backpacks packed, your devices charged, and your snow shovels handy — just in case.

Spotlight on Carter G. Woodson, "Father of Black History Month"

Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History,” dedicated his life to researching and elevating the contributions of African Americans, ultimately inspiring the creation of Black History Month. Born to formerly enslaved parents, he overcame significant challenges to earn a PhD from Harvard and founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History to promote the study and teaching of Black history. His words continue to remind us that discovering our potential requires action, perseverance, and the courage to push beyond limitations.

In recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness month, students participated in multiple school-wide initiatives. A bulletin board and a cafeteria trivia activity shared information about healthy relationships, warning signs, and resources for help. Additionally, Sojourner House visited health classes to continue education surrounding boundaries, communication, red flags, and available support. Thank you to Miss Stanford and Miss Brooks for leading this school-wide effort!
