First Confession

A very special congratulations to our 2nd Class pupils who made their First Confession on Monday, 20th April. Many thanks to Fr. Bernard and well done to the boys and girls. Of course we couldn't let the day pass without a little celebration afterwards.

First Communion

Our very best wishes to 2nd Class as they prepare for their upcoming First Communion this weekend Saturday, 9th May at 11am. This is an important step in their faith journey, and we wish them every success and happiness as they mark this special occasion. We hope it is a day of joy and blessing for the children and their families.

Punctuality

We will continue to focus on punctuality in the morning. Pupils will be encouraged to have a good practice of ‘being on time’ and ‘being prepared’ in place. Primary school pupils need parental support to ensure this happens. The settling in period of the school day is an essential stage for children and parents are asked to help their child to have the few minutes which are needed to chat to their friends and to settle in to the new school day. Families are asked to prioritise school punctuality for their child. Thank you for your support with this important life skill.

Please remember that children must wear their full school uniform to school every day. School crests are a compulsory part of the school uniform and must be attached to each uniform. Pupils may wear shorts in the warmer weather and must be plain navy (no logos). We ask for your support with this.

We have great pleasure in informing you that our application for the Green Flag award has been successful. Congratulations to the Green-School Committee and Ms McCabe on all your hard work and achievement. This is our 6th Green-School Flag are we are very proud of this great achievement.

The Green Flag will be presented to our school by An Taisce on Tuesday the 19th May, at the The Helix. Three senior members of our Green-Schools Committee will attend.

Re-turn Scheme

As part of our Green-Schools initiatives we now have a Re-turn bin on our premises. We aim to collect bottles and cans as part of the National Re-turn Scheme. We would love some support in collecting lots of bottles and cans to help our environment and raise some money for our school.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Parents' Association for their generous funding of the 6th Class graduation hoodies this year. The hoodies are a wonderful keepsake for our pupils as they celebrate the end of their primary school journey.

The boys and girls in all classes are taking part in gymnastics each week with School Fitness Ireland. The pupils are enjoying developing their balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility while learning a variety of new skills in a safe learning environment. Thanks to our hardworking Parents' Association who are funding the 6 week programme.

2nd-6th class recently enjoyed a visit to Mount Lucas Wind Farm, where they had the opportunity to learn about renewable energy and how wind power is generated. During the visit, the pupils explored the wind farm and discovered how wind turbines work to produce electricity in a sustainable way. It was a very interesting and educational trip that helped the children develop a greater understanding of energy, sustainability and caring for our environment.

We are extremely grateful to our Parents' Association who secured funding from the Croí Laighean Community Fund. The Croí Laighean Credit Union sponsored these beautiful new jerseys for our school. Many thanks to Valerie from Croí Laighean Credit Union who presented the jerseys to the pupils.

The U13s competed in the Cumann na mBunscol competition over the last couple of weeks and were thrilled to wear the new school jerseys. The pupils played two games against Broadford and Cadamstown. Well done to the boys and girls who represented their school in such a positive manner. We are very proud of their efforts. Well done to everyone!

4th to 6th Class investigated how dandelion stems respond to water. They observed the stems curling as they absorbed water, causing cells to expand unevenly. This demonstrated how water movement in plants (osmosis) can lead to visible changes in shape and structure.

4th -6th Class explored refraction. They learned that when light passes from air into water, it bends because it travels at a different speed in each material. This bending of light is called refraction, and it can make objects look shifted, larger, or bent in the water.

Junior and Senior Infants were busy using a variety of materials and techniques to create this bright and cheerful display!

4th, 5th & 6th Class created vibrant self-portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo. The pupils explored her use of bold colours, patterns, flowers, and nature to express personality and emotion.

4th, 5th & 6th Class pupils created colourful paintings inspired by Eoin O'Connor and his famous cow artworks. They explored his use of bright colours, bold lines, and playful patterns to design their own imaginative cows.

Many thanks to our school community for the support with the Easter Fundraiser. A total of €1340.60 was raised for school funds. Funds will be used to complete the basketball court.

The Parents' Association have created a new Facebook page to communicate any upcoming fundraising events and notifications. Please see link below for St Brigids National School Ticknevin Parents Association

Our 2nd Class pupils were delighted to receive goodie bags from the Parents' Association to mark their Communion Day this weekend.

Standardised testing will take place this month in literacy, numeracy and spelling for pupils in 1st-6th Class. I wish to remind our parents of the role that standardised testing plays in helping us to identify both pupils strengths and also as a guide in terms of the necessary supports and interventions needed for the next school year. It is important to note that standardised testing is only one aspect of assessment in school. We do not want pupils overly aware of testing and placing too much importance and emphasis on this area at too young an age. Standardised test results will be recorded on summer reports. Please find attached information to explain standardised scores.

April may have been a shorter month in school, but was certainly filled with meaningful learning experiences, creativity, and plenty of opportunities for pupils to work together. It has been lovely to see the enthusiasm and positive attitude shown by all classes both inside and outside the classroom. Our pupils continue to make progress in their learning. Their enthusiasm, effort, and willingness to embrace every opportunity have been truly encouraging.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support as we continue with the final term of the school year.
