🥳Celebrating Excellence🥳 🥳Celebrating Excellence🥳

Dear MSD of Steuben County Community,

As the 2024-2025 school year progresses, I am thrilled to highlight some of the incredible accomplishments our district has achieved. These successes reflect the unwavering commitment of our students, staff, families, and community to fostering an environment of excellence in academics, athletics, and overall development.

Angola University: Empowering Our Graduates
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our graduating seniors who participated in the district’s innovative "Angola University" program. This initiative provides our students with the unique opportunity to earn college credits and certifications while in high school, preparing them for success in higher education and beyond.

97% Graduation Rate: A Benchmark of Success
I am delighted to announce that our district achieved an outstanding 97% graduation rate this year! This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our educators, and the strong support of our families and community.

Montessori Education at Pleasant Lake
In response to the diverse learning needs of our families, we successfully established a Montessori program at Pleasant Lake Elementary. This program offers students a child-centered, hands-on approach to learning, fostering independence and critical thinking from an early age.

Athletic Excellence: Making It to State
Our Angola High School Volleyball Team made it to the state finals, showcasing incredible teamwork, resilience, and skill. Additionally, several individual athletes competed at the state level, further demonstrating the strength of our athletic programs. These accomplishments bring immense pride to our community and reflect our commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Academic Growth: Improved Test Scores
Academic performance across the district continues to rise, with improved test scores reflecting the hard work and dedication of our students and educators. These gains demonstrate our focus on providing a high-quality, challenging, and engaging education for every learner.

Building Improvements: Enhancing Our Facilities
Investments in our school facilities are ensuring that our students and staff have safe, modern, and inspiring environments for learning and growth. These improvements will continue to serve the needs of our district for years to come.

These accomplishments are just a few examples of the outstanding work happening every day in the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County. I am incredibly proud to serve as your superintendent and grateful for the collective effort that drives our success. Together, we are creating a bright future for every student in our district.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to excellence.

Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Widenhoefer
Superintendent
Metropolitan School District of Steuben County

The MSD of Steuben County 2024-2025 school calendar was approved two years ago to help families plan for school events, including graduation. However, the Indiana High School Athletic Association moved all of its calendar events back one week for the 2024-2025 school year. Unfortunately, this has caused a conflict between the spring sporting events that our senior students will participate in and our graduation ceremony. We want to make sure that all of our senior students have the opportunity to participate in their extracurricular activities and their graduation ceremony. For this reason, we are rescheduling the class for the 2025 graduation ceremony to Friday, May 30th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hornet Football Stadium.

We are super excited to announce that Angola High School's graduation rate of 97.22% is not only significantly higher than the state average but also the highest in the region. Dr. Matt Widenhoefer, Superintendent of MSDSC, attributes this achievement to the school’s unwavering commitment to supporting every student. "At Angola High School, we strive to provide each student with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed," he said. "This accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire school community." Angola High School has placed a strong emphasis on ensuring that no student falls through the cracks. Programs such as ACE Academy, led by Tia Buchs, offer students who may be struggling an opportunity to catch up. Additionally, the school’s Online Academy supports students who prefer a non-traditional learning environment, giving them the tools to thrive. We are incredibly proud of our students for their perseverance and grateful for the dedication of our exceptional staff, whose commitment continues to inspire success.

Rodrigo Flores's Journey to getting accepted to Columbia University. ✍🏻

My college application process began last year during my junior year of high school. In December, I discovered QuestBridge through social media, and by February, I applied to their junior program, the College Prep Scholars (CPS). As part of my acceptance into CPS, I attended the online National College Conference, where I had the opportunity to interact with admission officers from some of the country's most prestigious colleges and universities. On December 2nd, I received my acceptance letter to Columbia, which included a full-ride scholarship. Although I will never know if I was accepted into the other eight schools, I am both happy and grateful to call Columbia my home for the next four years.
