❓ What is TPRS? Is it the same as TAPR?

The Texas Performance Reporting System (TPRS) integrates state and federal reporting requirements into a single reporting system that can be viewed at the campus, district, region, and state level. As the most comprehensive reporting system published by TEA, TPRS provides additional performance reports, results, and indicators for student groups not previously reported on state accountability data tables, the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), or the School Report Card. TPRS is the enhanced online version of TAPR. It has been recently updated with Remote vs. In-Person Data. TEAL Accountability application will show you unmasked data.

The TPRS Glossary provides definitions, describes methodologies, and lists sources for each tab in the TPRS system.

Upcoming Texas Assessment Program Activities Nov. 21

To the Education Service Center and District Staff Members Addressed:

This communication is to inform you of the following upcoming activities for the 2022–2023 Texas Assessment Program.

TIDE ACTIVATION AND LOGIN INFORMATION

As a reminder, when a user’s Texas Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) account is created, TIDE sends the user an activation email. This email contains a link that directs the user to the Reset Your Password page in TIDE. This is where the user can set up your password for logging in to TIDE and other applicable Cambium systems. It is important to note that this link expires 15 minutes after the email is sent. If the user does not set up a password within 15 minutes, the requestor must request a new link for the user.

If the user does not receive an activation email, that person should check his or her spam folder. Emails are sent from DoNotReply@cambiumassessment.com, so the user may need to add this address to his or her contact list. If no email is found in either the inbox or spam folder, users should select Forgot Your Password on the TIDE login page.

Refer to the Registration section of the District and Campus Coordinator Resources and the TIDE User Guide for additional information.

UPDATES TO THE DISTRICT AND CAMPUS COORDINATOR RESOURCES

The District and Campus Coordinator Resources has been updated to include the Student Data Request User Guide. In addition, the How to Verify Students are Registered for TELPAS and TELPAS Alternate training video is now available in the Verify Student Information section. Refer to the Updates to Coordinator Resources section for additional updates since this resource was posted in August.

NON-EMBEDDED ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TOOLS UPDATE

For students requiring non-embedded supports such as predictive text, refreshable braille displays, or eye gazers, the Permissive Mode indicator code must be set to “On” in TIDE before test administration begins.

Most non-embedded assistive technology tools are supported by Windows and macOS desktops only, with applications running independently and not allowing copying of information from the secure browser. Permissive mode on macOS (10.13–10.15) is supported only with secure browser application version 12.5. Mobile devices, such as Chromebooks and iPads, do not support permissive mode. More detailed system requirements are provided for each assistive technology tool in the Assistive Technology Manual for Windows and macOS found in the District and Campus Coordinator Resources.

Districts must ensure that the proper secure browser application version is downloaded from the Texas Assessment website to allow for testing with permissive mode.

TEXAS FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT RESOURCE UPDATE

New assessments created in the Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR) authoring system may require 24 hours from the time they are published to become available in the test administration interface.

TRAINING UPDATE

The Test Security for the Texas Assessment Program training module is now available in the Learning Management System (LMS). This training reviews test security and confidentiality, testing irregularities and serious testing violations.

For questions or assistance regarding the information in this communication, contact Texas Testing Support at 833-601-8821, TexasTestingSupport@cambiumassessment.com, or TexasAssessment.gov via live chat.

Teacher Email: STAAR Redesign Nov. 11

Please see below regarding the information that TEA will be sending out to all teachers on Monday, November 14th.

https://tea.texas.gov/about-tea/news-and-multimedia/correspondence/taa-letters/email-to-teachers-regarding-staar-redesign-training

The purpose of this communication is to inform superintendents and school system administrators about an email that will be sent to teachers on November 14, 2022, regarding STAAR redesign training.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has been supporting ESCs and school systems in training their teachers about the STAAR redesign. Two new training opportunities are available this month for teachers that have yet to receive training from their ESCs or school systems. An asynchronous module is now available in the Student Assessment Learning Management System, and optional, TEA-led webinars for teachers about the STAAR redesign will be held during the week of November 28.

TEA will email the message below to all teachers in the Educator Certification Online System (ECOS) database on Monday, November 14. Superintendents are encouraged to share the contents of this email with teachers through local communication channels after the 14th in case some teachers’ contact information is not current in the ECOS database.

TEA Email Content to be Sent to Teachers

Dear Educator,

Texas educators played an important role over the past two years in helping to shape the redesigned State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), which will be implemented in Spring 2023. The redesigned STAAR, a result of House Bill (HB) 3906 passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019, will align more closely with effective classroom instruction. The redesign includes several components:

  • New types of test questions: New, non-multiple-choice question types are more like the kinds of questions teachers ask in class and give students more ways to show understanding.
  • More cross-curricular reading passages: Reading comprehension test questions reference topics students have learned about in other classes.
  • Evidence-based writing incorporated into reading language arts tests: Combined reading and writing tests better support the interconnected way these subjects are taught and eliminate stand-alone writing tests for grades 4 and 7.
  • Robust accommodations in online tests: The online testing platform provides a full suite of robust accommodations for students with specific learning needs.
  • Tests administered online: Online testing supports all the changes above and will provide faster test results in future years to support accelerated learning. The transition to online testing will be implemented beginning with the December 2022 administration.

There are multiple opportunities for educators to learn about the STAAR redesign, and all educators are encouraged to participate in at least one opportunity. Educators can receive CPE credit hours for participating in any of the following training opportunities, each of which cover the same STAAR redesign content:

  • An interactive professional development session facilitated by your district or regional education service center (ESC) using TEA-provided materials.
  • Online training modules hosted in the Student Assessment Learning Management System that can be completed on your own schedule. Please reach out to your district’s testing coordinator if you need access to the learning management system.
  • Live STAAR redesign webinars hosted by TEA from November 28–December 2, 2022, which cover the same information educators will receive in trainings offered by their ESC or district.

Registration links for TEA webinars are bulleted below:

  • Monday, November 28, 2022 | 3PM–4PM (CST)
  • Tuesday, November 29, 2022 | 11AM–Noon (CST)
  • Wednesday, November 30, 2022 | Noon–1PM (CST)
  • Thursday, December 1, 2022 | 4PM–5PM (CST)
  • Friday, December 2, 2022 | 3PM–4PM (CST)

Please submit any questions about the training opportunities to the Student Assessment Help Desk.

Thank you for all the work you do to support Texas students.

Sincerely,

Texas Education Agency

Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR)

TFAR is a free, optional platform used by educators to create, administer, analyze, and share formative assessments. Teachers will be able to analyze the results of these formative assessments to help inform instructional choices such as making immediate lesson plan adjustments or providing specific interventions for students at the level of individual standards.

TFAR is meant to supplement and support existing LEA resources and formative assessment practices. Assessments created in TFAR should be combined with a broader set of classroom formative practices that are part of a coherent instructional framework.

Additionally, formative assessments from select, high quality instructional materials (HQIM) with an open education license will be available to administer through the same online test administration system as assessments created using TFAR. Assessments from math and RLA curricula, grades K-5, will be prioritized, and other, select curricula’s assessments will be released on a rolling basis. Redesign of TELPAS Reading and Writing

Based on input from educators, the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) reading and writing domains will be combined in an online test for students in grades 2–12 this year.

Because of this new standardized version of a writing assessment, districts will no longer need to holistically rate writing samples for students in grades 2–12.

Students in kindergarten and grade 1 will continue to be holistically rated in all four language domains—listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

❓ What is the process for submitting SAT and ACT reimbursements?

There is a verification process in TEAL for the SAT and ACT college preparation assessment reimbursements. This verification process has occurred in November/December in the past.

Here is past TEA communication:

TEA will release the ACT/SAT testing data to districts in TEAL for districts to review, verify and submit for reimbursement. The person responsible for this project must have Accountability-level access in TEAL. Only the Superintendent can grant this level of access in TEAL.

In the TEAL application, districts will need to review the following four categories:

  • School Day – Matched: This link is an Excel file that districts may download, review and keep for record-retention. TEA assumes that if a student tested in the school day environment, the district paid for the cost of the exam at the state-negotiated rate and is eligible for reimbursement. *

    • *Since the School Day – Matched students are automatically considered for reimbursement, districts whose students did take a school day assessment but did not pay for their students must opt out. This is not needed for districts that want to be reimbursed for national day students.

  • National Day – Matched: This link provides access to an application where districts SELECT the students for whom the district paid and who tested on a national testing day. Districts must ADD the 10-Digit Student ID. To be eligible for reimbursement, districts must identify students and verify the district paid for the cost of the exam.
  • School Day/National Day – Unmatched: This link provides access to an application where districts SELECT the students for whom the district paid and who tested on a national or school testing day. Districts must ADD the 10-Digit Student ID. To be eligible for reimbursement, districts must identify students and verify the district paid for the cost of the exam.
  • Not Represented: Any student for whom the district paid for an assessment and is not found in any of the above categories. The district will have the opportunity to submit the student for a reimbursement request while the TEAL application is open.

Industry-Based Certifications

Industry-Based Certifications

Industry-based certifications are a valuable component of strong student pathways. TEC §39.053 requires the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to account for high school students who earn an industry-based certification as one indicator within the student achievement domain of the state's public school accountability system.
