The American Legion Missouri Girls and Boys State Program

Come rule the world! But first: build it. For one week, 1,600 rising seniors from across Missouri take over the campus of Lindenwood University to build the 51st state–exploring their integral part of the political process by working with others in a simulation to form a government structure, deal with problems as they arise, and see the political process at work. Participants have the opportunity to engage with world-class speakers, start a business, run the media, compete in sports, meet friends, run for office, write laws, argue in court, access college credit, and earn scholarships.

Students interested in government, policy, politics, service to others, law, and academics should consider applying now for this overnight summer program June 20-27, 2026 on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles. This is ONLY open to current Juniors. The early application deadline is Jan. 15th, and final application deadline is March 1. Students who participate in the program could earn elective WGHS credit, and the Chelsea Center will possibly fund the experience. Students can also earn A+ job shadow hours. Any interested students are encouraged to indicate their interest on GivePulse and then follow the GivePulse link through to the application for Girls or Boys State. Students who want to learn more or be connected with past participants to hear about their experiences can stop by the Chelsea Center.

Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
