We Want Your Feedback for Language Arts Curriculum Adoption

Our school is moving forward with an adoption of Language Arts Curriculum. There are two selections we would like for you to review so we can hear your feedback. After reviewing the feedback from families, as well as a pilot of the curriculum, our team will make the decision to adopt a curriculum for learning.

February 22nd and February 24 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at River Mill Elementary School.

High School Readiness Virtual Presentation!

We expect our collaboration to prepare students for their individual next level at the next grade level. It is important that we inform our families about how well their child is learning AND what the learning expectation is for students so we can ensure our students are "on track." As our 8th graders begin their transition to high school, we want to be clear about the learning expectation to graduate. We want our families to begin high school knowing what the end looks like.

Thursday, 2/24/22, at 6:30pm we will host a Facebook Live session to support families' understanding of the report card to prepare for high school readiness and success. We will also discuss other strategies we plan to support a smooth transition to high school. This session is designed for families of 8th grade students; although, all families are welcome!

Join us virtually this Thursday with a copy of your student's report card (we sent them least week) and your student's Chromebook so you can explore PowerSchool. We are excited to begin talking about high school with our students!

Your Student's Schedule Is Intentional

The second half of the academic year began last week. Throughout the second half of the academic year, we will leverage our students' schedule to maximize their potential for academic growth and achievement. Our goal is for your student to be proficient in all learning standards. Preparedness is essential.

6 Core Classes: You can expect your student to be learning, re-learning, and submitting evidence of their learning each day. Students are expected to follow discourse activities with their teacher and peers, engage in critical thinking (intentionally hard, challenging for students), regular writing/typing activities, and regular reading and listening activities.

FLX A: In Life class, we develop our students' self-awareness and support organizational skills.

FLX B: All students are reading in FLX B using Imagine Reading. Schoolwide, we are reading informational texts and practicing our inferencing, comprehension, and fluency skills.

FLX C: Students will practice, re-submit, relearn, and extend their thinking about academic tasks in their core classes.

Preparedness is essential. One barrier we will work to overcome this semester is our student's preparedness with materials for class as well as their follow-through with completed tasks. Each class, our students will need their Chromebook (charged), their notebook with writing utensils, and their planner. Is your student prepared for class?

Canvas and Quarantine Learning

If a student finds themselves unable to attend school for any reason we hope that they will access their teacher’s Canvas pages where daily assignments are posted and where they can access their Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies classes in real time through the Zoom link on their teacher's Canvas page.

Students should try to attend their classes at the regular times. Students should be sure to Zoom in at the beginning of each of these classes. If a student is unsure of the start times for their classes they can check their schedule in PowerSchool.

Mrs. Pederson is an added resource for students to get one-on-one help while they are away from school. Mrs. Pederson can assist students whether they have a quick question or need help writing a paper, completing a math, science or social studies project assignment. :) Please visit her Canvas page and Zoom with her during her Online School Hours.

We look forward to seeing you back at school! Go Tigers!!!

Positive Covid-19 Test During the Weekend? Let us know!

Call the weekend COIVD-19 case hotline on the weekend. It is self-automated; select the right school (per the prompt) and leave a message. The voicemail you leave will be directed to our Vice-Principal, Mr. Kelley so we can begin to identify potential close contacts.

The number you need to call to notify us about your student's positive case is: 971-220-6594. Thank you for partnering with use to keep our students in the classroom with as little interruption as possible.
