Social Emotional Learning Topic of the Month Social Emotional Learning Topic of the Month

Our theme for this month's social emotional learning topic is Internet Safety and Media Balance. With students going into summer break in just a few weeks, we know that there will be more students on their devices. We want to give them the tools to make safe and healthy choices while navigating those spaces.

Here are some articles and videos on both topics that you can use to talk with your student at home and reinforce the ideas they are learning at school:

The Internet is a wonderful resource, but access to it has its hazards for kids. Here's how to make sure your kids go online safely.

Keeping Children Safe Online

Due to COVID-19, kids and adults are online more than ever, often unsupervised in the same space. Kids and parents should stay alert-people aren't always who they seem in online environments where identity is easy to fake. Stay safe at home. Stay safe online.

PAWS Expectations of the Month PAWS Expectations of the Month

At Ernie Pyle, we follow the acronym PAWS:

P: Be Proactive.

A: Act Respectfully and Responsibly.

W: Make Wise Choices.

S: Be Safe.

In May, we are focusing on Acting Respectfully and Responsibly. Some examples of what this looks like is respecting others' privacy in the restrooms, using quiet voices in the hallways, and cleaning up after ourselves when we finish working or playing a space.

PBIS can also be a handy tool to use for correcting behaviors at home. Here is a guide that we created to help support your students at home. It provides examples of routines and structures to promote positive behavior and that can be implemented at home. Here they are in English and Spanish for your use:
