SEF Appreciation Breakfast Highlights Grants & Support for SISD Students
The Sunnyvale Education Foundation hosted its annual Sponsor Appreciation Breakfast on Thursday, November 6. The event celebrated the generous support of donors and highlighted the impact SEF grants have made in Sunnyvale ISD classrooms throughout the past year.
SISD students and teachers shared inspiring stories about how classroom grants have enhanced learning experiences. SHS robotics teacher Mrs. Frederiksen and her students showcased how grant-funded equipment allowed them to engineer key components for competition. At SIS, Mrs. Stovall and her students shared how SEF grants made hands-on learning possible through projects with chickens, gardening, and the annual hot air balloon lessons and rides. SMS choir teacher Mrs. Clark and her students discussed how new mirrors in their space have improved their ability to refine performances and build confidence.
During the breakfast, the Foundation also revealed its new theme for the year, setting the tone for another year of innovation and opportunity.
Sunnyvale ISD is deeply grateful to the Sunnyvale Education Foundation for their continued support in helping our students become future ready.

SIS Third Graders Experience Democracy in Action at Thirdville
Sunnyvale Intermediate School third graders experienced democracy in action on November 4, Election Day, with the annual Thirdville elections. Students learned firsthand about civic participation by casting ballots in a student election.
Many students embraced their roles as citizens while four SIS candidates shared campaign speeches. This engaging activity allowed them to vote for classroom leaders and learn about the voting process.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for making learning about democracy a memorable event at SIS!

Pukin’ Pumpkins Teach SIS Fifth Graders About Science in Action
SIS fifth graders in Ashlee Rinestine's science class learned about physical and chemical changes with the Pukin' Pumpkins lesson on October 30.
Students discussed the parts of a pumpkin and the pumpkin life cycle. They even cleaned out the pumpkin insides and planted some pumpkin seeds in their school garden!
Students then learned about chemical reactions by mixing vinegar, baking soda, dish soap and food coloring - creating "some disgustingly awesome puking pumpkins," Rinestine said.
