Staff Spotlight
I would like to give a shout out to a Crabapple Middle School teacher: Mr. Plantenys. Last night I attended the CMS Curriculum Night event. It was an extremely well run and informative event. Mr. Plantenys is my son's 8th Grade Georgia Studies / AP Government instructor. He gave a wonderful presentation surrounding expectations, what is covered in the course, why social studies and history are his passion. He also covered how to reach him, how to help our children ask for help and where resources are located.
What made Mr. Plantenys stand out is that he shared how he incorporates the AVID techniques into his teaching methods. He emphasized why these methods are vital to our student's success not only in his class, but in all future academically challenging courses. Mr. Plantenys gave great detail about using the WICOR method and how its application to our student's study efforts will help cement the information into their long-term memory more effectively.
The parents in the class were truly impressed with his methods. They were also one of the most engaged groups I sat with last night. He is a teacher that exudes passion for what he is teaching and is truly invested in the success of our students.

Staff Stock Market Game
From C. Lee (Marketing)
For any faculty & staff interested in learning more about investing in the stock market, Mr. Chris Lee will be sponsoring an adult version of the Stock Market Game this year, running parallel to the project he runs with his students. The kickoff will be after Labor Day, with the official start date at the end of the month. If the idea of using $100,000 in "Other People's Money" to learn how to invest and build wealth is an incentive, please see or email Chris Lee (413) to join.

Canvas Update
Canvas Reminders:
All grades MUST go in Canvas; no grades or assignments should be entered directly into Infinite Campus.
Some great tips:
- Turn on Nightly Sync:
- Grade sync-Utilities-flip switch for nightly sync
- Having Sync issues? Try a remaster!
Check out the visual instructions for both of those tips here as needed. Canvas Quick Tips.pptx
Teachers with High School Courses: you need to change the weights of your Majors from 50% to 55%, and minors from 40% to 35% in Canvas. See this link for instructions.
Teachers cannot add other teachers to courses. Rostered co-teachers will be automatically added.
If you need a new sandbox or someone added to an existing sandbox, please fill out the form with the sandbox URL and the email addresses of the individuals you want to add.
If you have a club or team that you want a course for, please fill out the form.

Grading
Teachers, we hope that most schedule changes are now complete. If you have been holding off on entering grades into the gradebook, no problem, now is the time to put those scores in. Our school guidelines around entering grades are that assignments scores should be input within 5 business days of the due date for regular assignments and 10 school days for major projects that take extra time to grade. With this in mind, make sure that any regular assignments turned in on or before August 19 or major assignments due on or before August 12 are entered into your gradebook by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 26. Thank you!
Grading Timeline
