A New Playground for Our Harrison Pre-K Cardinals
Coming Together as a Community
On August 11, our community was hit by a severe storm, leaving many families and our schools without power and causing significant damage throughout the School City of East Chicago. Our students and staff were unable to come to school during this difficult time.
Even in the face of challenges, our community came together to support one another. Families who were deeply affected and we wanted to make sure they knew they were not alone.
Our school community organized a Grab- Go- Recharge event at the Adminstration and two schools that had power, providing food and support to families and community in need.
A heartfelt thank you to our School City of East Chicago Superintendent Dr. Bournes, Food Department and AT&T for coming out and serving our families and community . We would also like to thank our administrators, principals, vice principals, and staff for their compassion, leadership, and wonderful support during this difficult time.
This is what community is all aboutβcoming together, helping one another, and showing that we are stronger together. β€οΈπ

Our students received a lemon stress ball, lemon wristband, and sticker to remind them that even when life gives us lemons, we can always make lemonade! π

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
Dear Harrison Cardinal Parents,
Creating a positive school and classroom culture and climate where teaching and learning can safely take place requires a partnership among parents, teachers, and all other stakeholders. At Harrison Elementary, we want every student to clearly understand what is and is not acceptable behavior.
Harrison Elementary will continue to use the district-approved PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) program to promote positive student behavior.
The goal of PBIS is to create a learning environment where students are responsible, motivated, and focused on their tasks. PBIS ensures that students' positive behavior is rewarded without focusing on negative behavior. Students can shop our PBIS store with positive points they earn through our PBIS system.
School rules and expectations are clearly posted in classrooms and throughout the building. Harrison Cardinal students are expected to follow school rules and guidelines and to display leadership qualities daily. If school rules are broken and disciplinary action is necessary, the action will serve as a learning experience through which a student can grow in character, values, self-control, self-understanding, and respect and appreciation for others.
Disciplinary actions may include, but are not limited to:
Warnings/Redirection
Teacher-Student-Parent Conference
Loss of a Privilege
Phone Call Home
Disciplinary Referral
Out-of-School Suspension
Our desire is always to do what is best for each student and to do whatever is necessary to help students achieve academic and emotional success.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
Respectfully,
Ms. Soto

Greetings cardinal families,Β
My name is Lludith Napoleon. I am your Bilingual Family Outreach Coordinator here at Harrison Elementary. I am here to help families with communication between staff and parents. Please contact me for anything you need. I was born in Nicaragua and I had to learn the language just like many of our students are doing now. I am very passionate about my position because I can still remember how much my mother struggled when it was time to register me in school. I remember having to translate for her as a little girl, when I was learning the language myself. Helping our Hispanic community on a daily basis brings me great pleasure because I have experienced the struggle myself. I am here to make your experience here at Harrison enjoyable and stress free. I am very excited for this new school year and can't wait to meet and interact with our new families and reconnect with our returning families as well. Welcome to Harrison Elementary where we all are a Big Family.

I am here to support the mission and vision of Harrison Elementary while building strong and positive relationships between our school, families, and community.
I invite you to stop by the Family Resource Room to say hello, learn about available resources, and discover ways we can work together to support our young Cardinals.
I look forward to another wonderful school year filled with communication, collaboration, and community. It is my pleasure to serve our Harrison families!
