Greetings PRM Families,

This month, we will close out the first quarter on October 11th and begin the second quarter. The season has changed from summer to fall, and we are making progress every day toward our goal of outstanding student outcomes.

Your role in your child's education is crucial. Regular communication with your child’s teacher(s) to discuss academic progress, encouraging your child to follow the school rules, and ensuring they are prepared for school each day are all vital. Review the Student Handbook available on prmrocks.org or by using this link, and check Focus and Canvas frequently for updates on assignments and progress.

We are a team in this journey. Our collective efforts as parents and the school are crucial for the success of every child at PRM. Our Parent-Teacher Organization and Equity Group meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm. Your presence at these meetings is important as we make decisions that shape our school.

Our commitment is unwavering. We are dedicated to ensuring every student at PRM succeeds. We value your partnership on this journey and look forward to your continued support!

Love,

Principal Simpson & Asst. Principals Brown and Gray

Parking Parking

Greetings PRM Community,

Our gracious partners at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church are once again permitting us to use their parking lot to help facilitate morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up. We want to respect and honor this partnership by adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Use of the lot is only for those using the park and walk option for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If entering the school office to conduct business, you must find parking on our campus or on the street.
  • Do not park in any of the yellow-striped spots. Those are leased by the new apartment complex being built on Lester.
  • White-striped parking spots facing Montgomery Rd. and those in the top portion of the lot closest to Montgomery Rd, are reserved for PRM staff overflow parking.
  • Use of the church lot and other parking options for special events will always be communicated.

Please be respectful to our partners at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and our school staff as we continue to share our resources for the good of the community.

3-6 News

Please send your students in appropriate clothing and layers, as our students go outside before 9:00 a.m. for their first recess and morning start. Thanks for partnering with us to get your student to school on time and well-rested! Remember to look inside and clean out blue folders daily. Whole school information is typically sent home on Wednesdays.

Outdoor education instruction with Imago will continue this month. If your student is in kindergarten, please make sure that they wear shoes that can get dirty and muddy on their garden day.

Kindergarteners will go to the Cincinnati Nature Center on October 22nd or 23rd. Your student's teacher will let you know when they are scheduled to go. Please help us by sending back any permission forms that you receive.

Please read to your child daily and talk about what you read. It is vital for language development, early literacy, and so much more!

6-9

October is a busy month for the 6-9 learners! Most students will be traveling on two field trips, to Green Acres and to Blooms and Berries. We will also have a puppet show here at PRM at the end of the month. Some 3rd graders will be visiting the Taft on Wednesday, October 16th, for a 3rd grade-only field trip. If you would like to volunteer on any field trips, please make sure that you have the needed purple badge and let your classroom teacher know your interest.

2nd grade students will complete their CoGat testing in October. This assessment evaluates the development of students' reasoning abilities using verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal cognitive tasks. 3rd grade learners will also complete their Ohio State Test at the end of the month. If you have a 2nd or 3rd grader who is testing this month and you would like more details, please reach out to your classroom teacher.

Thank you so much for supporting all our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade learners - we are honored to be your partners in education <3

9-12

The 9-12 team is finishing up 1st quarter and preparing for Iowa and CoGAT testing next week. Please remember to check Focus weekly to monitor assignment completion. As we near the end of the quarter, students will need to make sure to submit any missing work to ensure an accurate reflection of their learning. With the end of the quarter also comes our quarterly behavioral incentive celebrations. We truly appreciate your support in having frequent conversations with your students regarding the importance of following school-wide expectations and coming to school with a kind and respectful attitude.

Our 6th graders will be voting on their 6th grade theme this week which will then serve as inspiration for their t-shirt designs and will assist them in creating a focus for their leadership speeches. We are looking forward to hearing their reflections as their time at PRM begins coming to a close. Please try to attend the Transition to High School Information Night on October 17th. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to learn from PRM alumni and to ask questions about the process of registering for and transitioning to 7th grade. Thanks to Jen Jarman for being the champion of this valuable event.

And thank you for your continued partnership in making our school community great!

Music w/ Ms. Maria

Here are the links to sign up for the Winter Choir and the Spring Musical. Both are filling up quickly, so if interested, be sure to sign up soon.

Winter Choir (1st-3rd grade) – Rehearsals on Wednesday

Spring Musical-Alice in Wonderland (4th-6th grade) – Rehearsals on Tuesdays and some Fridays (Fridays are mostly for main roles)

Art w/ Ms. Kate

Students have been hard at work in art class using several different mediums. Kindergarten students have been exploring the art of painting, paper sculpture, and printmaking. 6-9 students completed optical illusions and created symmetrical cut paper designs inspired by the art of papel picado (perforated paper) in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. They are now printmaking by creating glue-relief printing plates. Thank you to Melissa Kyrlach for sharing her printmaking artwork and lesson with us! 9-12 students are focusing on different color schemes and types of shapes to create a relief sculpture inspired by the artist Frank Stella.

Technology w/ Ms. Brewer

We’ve had a wonderful start to the 2024-2025 school year in Technology Class. We finished our first unit, "What it Means to be a Digital Citizen and how we are safe, responsible, and kind online." We will continue implementing these practices in our everyday lessons. Students are completing their Digital Citizen books in Book Creator, and I am beyond impressed at the level of creativity and hard work each student has put into their designs. For the month of October, we will continue learning about different digital tools and resources to accomplish defined tasks, as well as practicing typing. Happy Fall! Sincerely, Ms. Brewer

Outdoor Education w/ Imago

The garden growing is slowing down for the fall and winter, but outdoor education is just ramping up! First, second, and third graders are about to start the bird unit to study raptors, beak adaptations, and much more. Kindergarten will keep on cooking in the mud kitchen and exploring all the garden has to offer. If you are looking to spend time in the garden, we would love to see you and your family at our Fall Garden Party on Friday, October 18, from 5:00-7:00pm in the school garden behind the school. There will be food and drink, activities for kids, and gardening projects to work on for all ages and abilities. Be sure to wear shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Zoe Vanasse (the Director of Land Stewardship at Imago) at zvanasse@imagoearth.org.

Updates from our Parent Leadership Groups Updates from our Parent Leadership Groups

It’s fall! Hopefully, you and your student(s) are starting to get accustomed to the rhythms of the school year. Thank you to all the teachers who stayed late for conferences last week! And thanks especially to everyone who provided a well-deserved chili lunch the next day for our dedicated staff. We have an amazing community that knows how to express their appreciation with delicious food. The staff was extremely grateful for this special treat.

This month we have several opportunities to be in the community – be sure to check the calendar on PRMRocks.org to find something enjoyable for you and your family. Ghoul Fest on Friday, October 11, from 6:00-8:00pm is a Trunk or Treat opportunity at the CRC. Wednesday, October 16th, is Unity Day, and students are encouraged to wear orange shirts to take a stand against bullying. The Transition to High School Information Night on October 17 is a great opportunity for our 6th graders and their families to learn about the transition to 7th grade. The Fall Garden Party on Friday, October 18th, will be fun for all ages. And Youth Mental Health First Aid is a two-session course on October 22 & 29 that will teach you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health in children.

PTO & Equity

Our October meeting will be on Wednesday the 9th at 6:30pm in the library. Please enter through the back parking lot doors. For the first 30 minutes, we will hear brief updates from Principal Simpson, the CLC, Foundation, LSDMC, ILT, and Boosters. Beginning around 7pm, we will discuss “All Things Math,” so come learn about how to support your student(s) in their math journeys and discover what’s new at PRM this year in math. Special guests will be Alexa Fulmer and Jackie Bonfield. Food and childcare will be provided. Questions should be directed to prmpto@gmail.com. Immediately following the meeting, the socializing will continue at The Fermentorium, so if you aren’t quite ready to go home, please consider joining.

Foundation

The Foundation would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported us through the Fall Mum fundraiser. It was a huge success!

Now, we NEED your help! We are planning additional exciting fundraisers for the year, including Larosa's Buddy Cards, the annual Silent Auction and party, the annual Read-a-Thon, and more, but we really need more support! If you can lend a hand with our fundraising efforts, please reach out to prsfpres@gmail.com. If you know of any businesses that may be interested in sponsoring PRM, please pass along this Sponsorship Guide to them.

The PRM Foundation continues to meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm at Community Happens Here. All are welcome!

Boosters

Fall sports are wrapping up this month. Our volleyball teams will compete in end-of-season tournaments the weekend of October 12/13. PRM will host the 6th grade girls’ tournament on Saturday and the 4th grade girls’ tournament on Sunday. Multiple schools from around the city, as well as our own PRM teams, will compete at PRM. Come out and cheer the home teams on to victory! Soccer teams will finish their regular season games the weekend of October 19/20. And our littlest roadrunners will celebrate a great season of soccer with a donut party on 10/5! Thanks to all our volunteer coaches who have made our fall season a success!

Winter sports are right around the corner, and basketball teams will begin practicing in November. Registration closes on October 6th at 11:59pm. If a team is full, email prmathletics@gmail.com to confirm your spot on the waitlist. We can only open additional teams at each grade level if we have at least six kids on the waitlist.

Our cheer program would love a co-coordinator. We hope to offer cheer this winter, but we could really use another parent volunteer to help this in-house program run smoothly. If you are interested in supporting Cheer, please reach out to prmathletics@gmail.com right away.

Lastly, Booster will have a meeting on Tuesday, October 8th at 6:00pm at Nine Giant. All are welcome to attend – we could use the support! Go, Roadrunners!!

ILT

The Instructional Leadership Team meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at 2:45pm. ILT met two weeks ago to discuss funding allocation for all clubs, including the musical. Using Schedule E funds, we could support most of the clubs. Sign-up information will be available soon if it hasn’t already been shared.

LSDMC

This month’s Local School Decision Making Committee meeting will be held at PRM on Wednesday, October 9, from 3:00 to 4:30pm. Unfortunately, the LSDMC is currently looking for a new parent representative to replace one of our parents, who is now a district employee. If you or someone you know is interested in filling this role for the remaining year of this term, please contact prmpto@gmail.com. We will need to vote someone in at an upcoming PTO meeting.

Scouts at PRM

Girl Scouts: We'd love to get a troop for kindergarten and 1st grade, but we need interested volunteers to be leaders! Contact dianeobrian@gmail.com if you are interested or know someone who is.

Cub Scouts: Meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, reach out to cubpack25prm@gmail.com for more information!

School Uniform Policy School Uniform Policy

We must be consistent in acknowledging and enforcing our school uniform policy. Our uniform policy is liberal enough to include several options for families. All PRM Spirit Wear is considered part of the school uniform.

While we don't like to take time away from instruction to deal with uniforms. We must all be consistent to ensure this doesn't become a major issue as we close out the school year.

Please see the policy below and in the PRM Student Handbook.
