Trauma-Informed Approaches

Trauma-InformedApproachesin Education

Research shows that 2 out of 3 people experience a traumatic event by the age of 16. Mental health services are not required, but school attendance is.

Being trauma informed can help us change the message from "What is wrong with you?" to "What happened to you?". {The paradigm shift}

Trauma-Informed Approaches

This training will provide participants with an overview of trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) and how the brain is affected. Trauma-informed approaches are presented to provide an understanding of how trauma impacts individuals, educators, and school systems. We will review trauma-informed approach strategies and how they can help students develop resiliency. Finally, we look at how educators are impacted by their students' trauma and some skills to combat burnout and secondary traumatic stress.

This is typically a 3 hour training, but can be tailored as needed.

Embedding Trauma Informed Practices within the PBIS Framework

This training is designed for school teams to collaborate and discuss strategies for embedding trauma-informed practices within the school system. During this training, participants will be provided with trauma-informed strategies that can be implemented in the school setting and will have the opportunity to create an individualized action plan for their school. The core team will assist their school staff in implementing these trauma-informed approaches throughout the school systems.
