Welcome to the 2025-2026
We are excited to welcome you all to another exciting school year. Our faculty and staff are here to ensure student learning takes place.
Jose Lopez, M. Ed
Dear Hornet Parents,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we move further into the school year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement plays a vital role in creating a positive learning environment where our scholars can thrive. We appreciate the many ways you contribute, whether by encouraging good attendance, reinforcing expectations at home, or simply cheering on our school community. Together, we are building strong foundations for both academic and personal success.
Blue Form (Socioeconomic Information): Please complete and return the Social-Economic “Blue Form” at your earliest convenience. Your response helps our campus secure important funding and services for all scholars. If you need a replacement copy, contact the front office.
Back-to-School Forms: If you have not completed the Back-to-School forms, please do so when you have a moment. Finishing these soon helps us keep records current and ensures your scholar has access to all supports.
As we begin this new season of learning, we want to emphasize the importance of attendance for your child's academic success and overall well-being.
Attendance Matters – Regular school attendance is crucial for your scholar's educational growth and development. Scholars who attend school consistently are more likely to succeed academically and socially.
Academic Achievement – Studies consistently show a strong link between good attendance and high academic performance. When scholars are present in class, they have the chance to learn and practice essential skills and knowledge required for their grade level. Missing even a few days of school can lead to gaps in learning that are difficult to overcome.
Social and Emotional Development – School is not just about academics; it's also a place where children learn valuable social and emotional skills. Consistent attendance allows your scholar to form friendships, build trust with teachers, and develop a sense of belonging within the school community.
Legal Requirements – It's important to remember that regular school attendance is not just beneficial; it is also a legal requirement. State law dictates that scholars must attend for 90 percent of the days a class is offered.
Key Reminders
· Blue Form: Please return the Social-Economic “Blue Form” at your earliest opportunity. This information directly supports campus resources and services.
· Back-to-School Forms: Kindly complete any outstanding forms in the coming days so we can best serve your scholar.
· Tardy Policy – The tardy policy will be in full effect starting Monday, September 8th. Please emphasize to your scholars the importance of getting to class on time each day.
· School ID Requirement – Parents can help by ensuring that scholars wear their school IDs every day.
· Game Attendance – Beginning this school year, all K–8th grade scholars must be accompanied by an adult to attend games. Scholars will not be allowed to stay and view the game if a parent or guardian is not present with them.
· Personal Devices – We appreciate your support in helping us ensure that scholars are not using their personal communication devices during instructional hours (8:00 a.m.–4:05 p.m.). Once scholars exit the building, they may access their devices.
We are excited about the opportunities and experiences the school year will bring. Our dedicated team is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where your child can thrive.
Thank you again for your partnership in your scholar's education. Together, we can ensure that every scholar at Alice Johnson Jr. High has the best opportunity to succeed. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, the Blue Form, Back-to-School forms, or any other school-related matters, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Sincerely,
Jose Lopez

- September is National Suicide Prevention month. Every year, mental health organizations and individuals raise awareness of suicide prevention. #BeThe1To is the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s message for National Suicide Prevention Month. It helps spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide.
We encourage all students to participate in our Hispanic Heritage Dress-Up Days!
A reminder that all attire must still adhere to the student dress code.
BACKGROUND: Gov. Greg Abbott signed Texas House Bill 1481 (HB 1481) into law, which requires all Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to implement written policies banning students from using “personal communication devices” - such as cell phones - during the school day.
What students are NOT allowed to use under HB 1481 during class:
Any wireless electronic communication device capable of transmitting and/or receiving data
Smartphones
Smart watches
Personal tablets
Text messaging devices
Personal laptops
“Smart Wear” (Examples: Bluetooth headphones, earphones, smart glasses
Here is the district link to the Consequences for Violations - Junior High/High School Students!

Beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, we will start enforcing student ID requirements.
We want to ensure that all parents and students are aware of our campus tardy policy.
Slight changes have been made the to the bell schedule.
The goals of this revision are to (1) reduce hallway congestion during transitions and (2) streamline the day by reducing the total number of bells. The updated bell schedule is attached below.

Parents are not allowed to walk students to their class.
Doors will open at 8:00 am.
Car-riders/walkers will enter through the bus ramp doors.
CAR RIDERS

Please DO NOT drop off students prior to the drop-off zone.

To ensure our students are safe, please DO NOT drop off or pick up students from the staff parking lot. We do not want our students crossing the walkway in front of moving vehicles.

Student Hornet Policies
Attention Parents:
We want to ensure that all students are aware of our campus policies and expectations. We have attached the student hornet policies for you to review with your children.
Please be sure to take a look at the dress code, as we have students that have been out of dress code.
English: Hornet Policies
Spanish: Las Políticas De Los Hornets
We are aware that our hornet students want to show their pride at athletic events and we want them to attend as many as possible!
As per the new Channelview Athletic Regulations, students attending games on campus- both Elementary & Middle School must be accompanied by a supervising adult and remain seated with them at all times.
We understand that this is different from previous year, but it is important that we communicate this with you all.
We hope that with your collaboration we can inform all of our students of this new policy!
