Superintendent Update
November 8, 2024
Cliff's Notes
Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
I know this was an eventful week for our country, but also here in Bedford, with post-season play continuing for the Bucs in Football, Field Hockey, Boys & Girls Cross Country, and a valiant effort by the Boys Soccer team last night edged out by Revere after 11 penalty kicks! I also want to highlight some other events/news from this past week in recognition of the hard work of our students and staff (and the DPW!), including:
- For Lane School families, Sweetwater Avenue is now open to all traffic!
- The BHS marching band ended their season with a prize-winning performance.
- Staff participated in a wonderful day of professional learning throughout the district on November 5th, including grade-level teams K-5 hard at work on CKLA literacy unit planning at the Davis School and a joint session with JGMS/BHS staff at BHS on restorative practices.
- The Lane school held another celebratory multi-generational Veterans Day assembly at Lane School in recognition of Veterans Day on Monday (pictured below).
- I had the privilege of chaperoning with other JGMS staff at the amazing 6th grade field trip to Nature's Classroom in Freedom, NH with glorious weather. I was heartened to see how the team worked together--especially our education support professionals--to ensure that every child had a good experience. This is a tradition I look forward to continuing! (Students enjoying the crisp fall morning air by Lake Ossipee pictured above).
Best,

Updates from Food Services at Lane Elementary
As part of our continuing efforts to expand our nutrition offerings, we are pleased to share the following news for the Lane School. These enhancements will continue across the district in stages. Many thanks to our food services team!
New Breakfast Offerings
Bedford is participating in the National School Breakfast program, and breakfast offerings will start at Lane School on Wednesday, November 13. Bedford School Nutrition receives state and federal reimbursements that fund the Nutrition Program. All students at Lane will be able to have one breakfast and one lunch each day at no cost. We hope families will choose to participate in the free school meal program. Thank you to the USDA and more so to the state of Massachusetts for funding these programs. Students will be able to order breakfast with their teacher the day before (i.e. on Tuesday 11/12 morning, students will order breakfast for Wednesday 11/13), and breakfasts will be delivered in the classrooms at the start of the school day. The breakfast menu will be posted on the Food Services menus web page (see link above).
New Lunch Offerings
In an effort to better serve our students, a "Daily Grill" offering was added to the menu beginning November 4, 2024. The following will be listed on the monthly menu at https://bedfordpsmanutrition.org/
