Central and Tierra Linda Named 2026 California Distinguished Schools
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 12, 2026
San Carlos, CA — The San Carlos School District is proud to announce that Central Middle School and Tierra Linda Middle School have been recognized as 2026 California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education.
For the 2026 Distinguished Schools program, schools were selected based on data reported through the 2025 California School Dashboard, with a focus on excellence in academic achievement, meaningful progress in student outcomes, and fostering a positive school climate. Central and Tierra Linda are among just 408 middle and high schools statewide, and just 6 middle and high schools in San Mateo County to receive this prestigious recognition.
The California Distinguished Schools Program is California’s school recognition program that highlights exceptional public schools demonstrating strong student performance and growth.
Central Middle School Principal Thomas Domer shared his appreciation for the recognition,
“This honor reflects the extraordinary work happening every day in our classrooms and across our campus. It belongs first and foremost to our incredible teachers and support staff, whose dedication, creativity, and commitment to our students are truly inspiring. At the heart of our success are the strong relationships between our students and staff, which foster a deep commitment to supporting every student’s personal and academic growth.”
Echoing this excitement, Tierra Linda Middle School Principal Charu Gulati added, “This is such an exciting moment for us! We are incredibly proud of the Tierra Linda team and our supportive community. This recognition is especially meaningful, as it has been a long time since Tierra Linda received this honor. It reflects the dedication and care of our teachers and staff, the curiosity and perseverance of our students, and our focus on belonging, building strong relationships, and supporting the whole child.”
“We are proud to see Central and Tierra Linda recognized, and this achievement reflects the strong sense of community and shared commitment to our students across all San Carlos schools,” said Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Hans Barber. “Our educators work every day to build supportive environments where students feel known, cared for, and connected—because when students feel they belong, they are better able to grow, learn, and thrive both academically and socially.”
The San Carlos School District celebrates the accomplishments of both schools and the dedication of the educators, students, and families who make this success possible. Their commitment to academic excellence and student well-being continues to set a high standard for education across the district.
