Last Day of School for 8th Grade

SMS 8th graders take finals in all core classes during the last week of school. Team teachers will communicate with students the order of finals for their team. All 8th graders will take their Social Studies final the first hour of the day on Friday, May 23rd.

Thank you to our PTO and the IHOP in Wentzville for the 8th-grade brunch. The 8th-grade brunch is a fun event for our students. With a large class of 400 students, we do not get the opportunity to bring them together for many events. This brunch is a fun way to start the last day of school and for the entire class to be together. The brunch takes place from 8:30-9:45 on Friday, May 23.

Looking at the success and fun elementary schools have had with their clap-out, two years ago SMS started a new tradition of the Timberland walk. The walk is to symbolize the end of middle school and the transition to high school for our students. We will start at SMS right around 10:15 a.m. and walk as a grade-level team to the bleachers of the football field at Timberland. Once all the grade level teams have arrived at Timberland, we will come together as an 8th grade and take a large group photo.

Parents of 8th-grade students are invited to watch the Timberland walk by standing alongTimberland Drive, which is the road between SMS and Boone Trail, to see our 8th graders together. This event was a lot of fun the past two years and provided many photo opportunities for parents.

Parking will no doubt be tight, but we will open up our bus loop. Parents can also park in our main lot and in open spaces at Boone Trail. It will be important for parents to leave the South Campus once our Timberland walk ends so we can prepare to get buses on our campus for the end of school. The Timberland walk should be finished no later than 11:15 a.m. Please reference the map at the end of this newsletter to see the route of the walk and parking options.

We do understand that some parents will want to do an early checkout, taking their child directly from the Timberland walk. Each team will have one teacher and a designated area marked with a sign in the bus loop at SMS where you will be able to sign out your child. Please go to that designated location and teacher location with your child. Show your ID and sign your child out.

Thank you for letting us work with your child this year. Our 8th graders have done an excellent job at SMS and we are very proud of them. They have been a great group and we look forward to hearing great things in the future about the class of 2029!
