Principal's Post
It has been a busy first full week at DKHS. We kicked off our first lessons from our Whole Child Initiative and are in full swing as schedules get finalized. We have re-hired Mrs. McFanin to help with some schedule challenges that are due to an increase in enrollment and the fact that we did not replace some recent retirees. Mrs. McFanin will be teaching some business classes along with a Current Events class and another history elective. We also hired Mr. Andrew Tyner as a parapro and media center assistant. Welcome to the DK team!!!
Our Mental Health Ambassadors have begun work on the Student Wellness Room and will be using some grant dollars they were awarded to create a space for students. This group is working hard to be a support and provide some resources for our student body.
Our new FFA Chapter is moving full speed ahead with both State and National conferences coming soon that some of our students will be attending. Ms. Hebenstreit has really hit the ground running with this program, and kids are excited to have this type of learning experience. If you are interested in supporting our FFA chapter please contact Ms. Hebenstreit.
NWEA Testing takes place next week. Testing will be on Wednesday the 18th and Thursday the 19th for all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at the normal starting time. Seniors will be on a 2 hour delay schedule and their day will start at 9:55. Students will need to have a fully charged chromebook and will report to their AEP teacher by 7:55.
Barry County Youth Advisory Council is looking for some Delton representatives. This is a great leadership opportunity for our kids to have a voice in programs, grant dollars, and other service projects that impact our school and community. This is a great resume and application builder and draws the attention of employers and college admissions people. Please see Mr. Vanhoose or Mr. Hogoboom if you are interested.
Closed Campus:
Once students arrive at DKHS for their academic school day, they are expected to report to all classes and to follow all school policies. If an emergency arises and a student must leave our campus, he/she must sign out in the DKHS Main Office. Pupils with an age of majority form on file may sign themselves out with approval from administration, while all other individuals must present parent/guardian authorization to adult office personnel (for emergency reasons). Students failing to sign out are in violation of the skipping policy. Students are not allowed to sign out during the day to leave and run errands, eat lunch, pay bills, etc. If a parent wants to pick a student up they may, however they need to be signed out by the parent. Parents are not allowed to call in and have students sign out, unless the student is not returning. Rules also apply to students who are 18.
Have a great weekend. Go Panthers!! DO A JOB
