Dear MMK Families and Community,

Welcome back from Spring Break! As we enter the first week of April, there's a wonderful sense of renewal and purpose throughout our Mary M. Knight campus. Our school continues to thrive because of your ongoing support and partnership in our mission to ensure all students develop the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to become successful citizens.

I'm thrilled to share some extraordinary news - our MMK SkillsUSA teams have made us tremendously proud! Our Entrepreneurship team secured 2nd place at state, and our American Spirit team won 1st place and is advancing to Nationals in Atlanta this June! These seven outstanding students represented our school with tremendous pride, passion, and determination.

April brings our Character Strong focus on "Courage" - a wonderful trait we're emphasizing throughout our school community. You can learn more about how to reinforce this at home by downloading the Courage Family Newsletter available on our website.

Our MMK Parent Teacher Organization is vital to the success of our students, and we invite you to attend the next PTO meeting on Wednesday, April 9th at 3:30 PM in the elementary library. If you haven't already, please consider completing the PTO volunteer form. Every contribution, whether it's your time, ideas, or participation in fundraisers like the current blanket sale (pre-orders end May 5th), makes a meaningful difference in enhancing educational experiences for our children. The PTO Google form makes signing up quick and easy - your involvement, in any capacity, helps create exceptional opportunities for our students.

Looking ahead, we have a full sports schedule this week with baseball games and track meets, and referrals for our Highly Capable Program are being accepted through April 15th. Also, remember that Family Access through Skyward remains an excellent way to stay updated on your child's academic progress.

Huge congratulations to our incredible MMK SkillsUSA competitors!

Our Entrepreneurship team crushed it, earning 2nd place in state, and our American Spirit team dominated with a 1st place state victory—which means they’re heading to NATIONALS in Atlanta this June!

These 7 outstanding students represented MMK with pride, passion, and determination at the SkillsUSA State Competition, and we couldn't be prouder! Let’s cheer them on as they prepare to take on the nation!

Did you know that as a parent or guardian you have access to Skyward to see your child's grades, attendance, discipline, and much more?

As parent of a child at Mary M. Knight, families have access to a parent portal of skyward where you can log on. From there you can access to see what your child's most updated grades are, their attendance as well as excuse them through family access, and much mor information. This is a great communication tool to help families stay on to of their child's progress at MMK. You can access the Skyward family access link at the district website or click on the link bellow. We have also included a short video on logging in and the information you can find.

Referrals for our Highly Capable Program are now being accepted through April 15, 2025. This program provides accelerated learning opportunities for students with exceptional academic abilities that qualify. Parents, teachers, or community members can refer students from downloading it from our website and returning it. Parent permission is required before assessment.

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
