Central Office Meeting Updates
Your Troy NEA Executive Board recently met with central office leaders to discuss your concerns and share celebrations.
Concerns discussed include: W-2 Errors, Pay Freeze Concerns, After-School Events, Shortened Lunch Times, Interrupted Plan Times, and Data Sheets 9-12.
Celebrations shared include: new technology district wide, special education's focus on reduced case loads and increased support staff, and admin in particular buildings making staff feel valued and heard!
You will be excited to know we were able to...
- Get changes to the data sheets for 9-12 made--no more converting percentages into 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s saving teachers a lot of valuable time! (This change occurred before we even made it to the meeting!)
- Request a courtesy reminder for employees to make any name changes with the district before the district's cut-off date for W-2s.
- A majority of errors this past year occurred due to a 403b savings plan; however, all other errors were due to mismatched names and social security numbers with the IRS.
- Gain understanding on our districts budget and dispel the pay freeze concerns- Public funding is causing great concern for the future of education. (Learn more about Senate Bill 3 and its impact here.) Our district is proactively making wise spending decisions now to ensure our budget remains sustainable and allows us to continue to provide raises
- See notes for an exciting change coming the the early retirement incentive!
- Gain clarity on after-school events- After school events are a critical component of our districts goal to build trusting relationships; however, CO wants the opportunity for employee engagement with reasonable and mutual agreement.
- Each grade level will come to a consensus on reasonable expectations for outside of school hours participation
- Once consensus is arrived upon at each level, each school will define these expectations in their handbook for teachers.
- Address reduced lunch times- Central office was unaware of the shortened lunch times teachers are getting at elementary and then for 5th lunch shifts at TBHS. They will work with administration to address this ASAP.
- Bring attention to plan times being taken- Central office administration would like additional information on patterns of lost plan time.
- Please complete the Plan Time Log any time your plan time is used for meetings, student supervision, or other non-instructional obligations.
