May Bulletin Boards Around Phelps
Students in Mrs. Haglund's enrichment groups worked for several weeks designing, building, and modifying various Rube Goldberg machines. A Rube Goldberg machine is a complex machine that is designed to carry out simple tasks. A Rube Goldberg machine works with a series of chain reactions that transfer energy through different pulleys, levels, cogs, and more to carry out one final task.

Spelling Bee
Phelps was proud to send three students to represent our 4th grade at the annual Junior Women's Club Spelling Bee. Representing Phelps were Jaden, Zoey, and Macksen who competed with 4th graders from each of the classrooms from the four elementary schools. We are thrilled to share that Macksen took 1st place and Zoey took second place! The final round was very exciting with both Zoey and Macksen going back and forth using 91 words (one of the longest challenges ever). Congratulations to all three of you and way to represent Phelps! 👏

Crystal Apple Award Winner 🍎
The Crystal Apple Award winner for the month of April is Mrs. DeCaro!
Mrs. DeCaro always has a smile on her face when working with her students regardless of how the day is going. Even though she is assigned to a particular student, she is always willing to help with other students. Her demeanor is calm and positive which results in the children in the class having a desire to work with her or ask for assistance. Mrs. DeCaro is very well respected within the Phelps community. She is very deserving of this award!

2024-2025 Updates 🏫
It is hard to believe that the 2023-2024 school year is coming to a close! We are well into our preparations for next school year and here are a few important updates!
- The first day of school for the 2024-2025 year (grades 1-4) will be Thursday, September 5.
- Kindergarten orientation will be on Monday, September 9 with students starting on Tuesday, September 10. Invitations for orientation will be sent home in August.
The link is open for families to shop! Avoid the summer back to school lines this summer! Once again, Phelps will offer parents the opportunity to buy next year's school supplies through School Tool Box. All of the supplies needed for the classroom come in the box, with options for additional add-ons or items to donate to the classroom (i.e. bandaids, tissues). Supplies are shipped directly to the school and will be waiting in your child's homeroom on the first day of school. All items are name brand. Please make sure to purchase the box for your child's grade level for the 2024-2025 school year.
Supply lists will also be posted to the Phelps website soon.
- Class placement for the 2024-2025 school year will be sent to families in the middle of August.
Agawam High School Building Project
The vote for the new high school is set for Tuesday, June 11. As parents of elementary students, your vote will lay the path for the high school that our Phelps students attend in just a few short years - whether it is a new building or not. All information about the project can be found at the Agawam High School Building Project website.
