Help our Food Service!

Greetings All,

I hope you’re all doing well!

As some of you know, our Food Service Cooperative manages the kitchens and staff across eight schools in two districts. This is Erika’s and my first year as co-directors, and we have ambitious long-term goals for the program that we hope to shape around student voice and feedback.

We often hear feedback through teachers, but we’d like to make our department more accessible and gather a broader perspective. We’re asking you to share this Food Service Feedback Form with students, staff, faculty, and families.

Our goal is to better understand the cafeteria experience, increase participation, and continue providing free breakfast and lunch to all students.

Thank you for helping us get the word out!

Paul & Erika

Community Closet Corner

Thank you for supporting the Community Closet with your gently used clothing donations. Donations may be dropped off with Mrs. Deppman in room 2122 at any time. Either one bag or one shirt is greatly appreciated! As we head into late fall and winter we are looking for the following items: Sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, flannel, fleece, jackets, vests. Please make sure the donations are free of pet hair (for those that have allergies) and free of stains and holes. If you donate clothes or shop at our next opportunity, you are eligible to earn a “Golden Hanger Ticket”. These tickets will be entered for a drawing for early shopping opportunities!

I have already heard from two schools asking more about Community Closet! Mt. Abe is setting a trend in VT schools!

MEET ANNA DOUCET OUR HIGH SCHOOL ELP COORDINATOR

My name is Anna Doucet and I am thrilled to be starting my role as the ELP High School Coordinator. I am a born and raised Vermonter and a former Mt. Abe student. I recently graduated from Middlebury College, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Global Health and French and Francophone studies. I was also a member of the college Environmental Group and the Language in Motion Program, and worked as a research assistant for the Psychology department. In my free time, I love reading, exploring outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. I especially enjoy visiting France, where I studied for a semester in both high school and college.

I have worked with ELP for eight years in various capacities, most recently as an Afterschool Lead Teacher at Bristol Elementary School. I love ELP and all that it has to offer, and I am very excited to be working at alma mater in this new position!

MEET ELEANOR HARRISON OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL ELP COORDINATOR

My name is Eleanor Harrison and I am very excited to be joining the Middle School ELP as the new Coordinator. I am originally from Miami, Florida, but I have spent the last four years at Middlbury College. I graduated last May with a joint degree in Environmental Studies and Earth and Climate Sciences. During college, I did research for the Earth and Climate Sciences department and was an active member of the Environmental Group.

I have worked at Bristol Elementary ELP for several years now. Coming from Florida, I have especially enjoyed all the opportunities that ELP has given me to explore Vermont. I love being outside, especially at the beach. That being said, I’ve also had a blast learning to ski! I play guitar and piano, and love to read and write. I also love working with local youth, so I can’t wait to get started with the Middle School program!

Updates from the School Counseling Office

Attention 11th Grade Students:

Middlebury College Access Mentors (MiddCAM) Application due December 4th

MiddCAM is a program that pairs Middlebury College students with Mt. Abraham Union High School juniors to provide support throughout the college application process. Support provided by MiddCAM will be in addition to services provided by their school counselor throughout the college search and application process.

Matching occurs in the winter of the 2026-27 academic year and the mentorship continues through the student’s senior year (2027-28). Mentors assist Mt. Abe students with activities that include researching and creating college lists, discovering and clarifying funding and scholarship opportunities, managing deadlines, and supporting the essay writing process. Additionally, the mentor can provide relevant information regarding the transition from high school to college. If you are interested in participating in this program, please complete this application and return it to the school counseling office by December 4, 2026. Hard copies are available in the school counseling office.

Future Planning FIT Blocks

Every Friday during FIT block from 2:17-2:47 pm school counselors will be available to assist students with any step of the college application and career planning process.

Scholarship Opportunity

  • The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) Scholarship Book is available online and hard copies are available in the school counseling office. This is an opportunity for seniors to apply for several scholarships with only one application. The deadline to apply is February 10, 2027.

VSAC Personalized Assistance For Filing Financial Aid Forms

Are you a Vermont student that needs help filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2027-28 school year?

  • VSAC is available to assist Vermont families in person or virtually. Virtual meetings are being offered Monday-Thursday with in-person meetings available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Sign up for a one-on-one virtual or in-person meeting:

  • Virtual (Monday-Thursday)

  • In Person (Tuesdays-Thursdays)

  • Find out what documents are needed by visiting our Focus on FAFSA page and navigating to the "7 Steps to FAFSA" tab.

Please check out these helpful resources prior to scheduling an appointment.

  • Five Actions for Financial Aid (PDF) - also used to store your usernames and passwords

  • How to Create a StudentAid.gov Account (PDF) - best if this is created before your FAFSA Filing appointment

  • How to Create a MyVSAC Account (PDF)

Already filed your FAFSA or have other financial aid questions (such as "what's next?" or "did I do this right?") that you would like to ask? Email resourcecenter@vsac.org to request an appointment. Please include any specific discussion topics (IE: grants, scholarships, SAI, college awards, etc.) so we may better serve you.

College and Military Information Sessions

  • Throughout the fall, college admission and military representatives visit the Mt. Abraham school counseling office to hold information sessions for interested students. The schedule is posted on our bulletin board and our web page. The weekly schedule is also shared through google classroom with all 11th and 12th grade students each Monday at 8am! Students may contact their counselor to request a pass to meet with a branch of the military, college or university of interest. We encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity!
