CLAVES
As part of the Caminos expansion to the secondary schools, educators from the Browne Middle School and Chelsea High participated in CLAVES® training to continue building their capacity to be bilingual educators. The two cohorts that first participated in the training in June had the opportunity to deepen their learning with a focus on cross-linguistic connections and strategies that support multilingual learners. A third cohort of educators engaged in their initial introduction to the CLAVES framework. To wrap up a week of learning, educators participated in VISITAS, a structured protocol, to observe and highlight these instructional practices in action, strengthening the connection between the professional learning and classroom implementation.
Contextualized Learning for Access, Validation, Equity, and Success – CLAVES®.
CLAVES® is a framework that provides the professional learning needed to cultivate an equitable environment in classrooms and schools where each student, especially Multilingual learners or English Learners, has access to contextualized content and language, while validating their individual identity and educational agency.

After finishing our Amazing Animals unit, students worked together to research, write, and create a classroom book all about animals from around the world. They were so excited to see their hard work come to life in a real book and to share it with others. This project was a fun and meaningful way to build reading, writing, and teamwork skills while celebrating student creativity.

Pinky & Rex
2nd graders are finishing up their unit on Pinky and Rex! This week, they have been writing their own chapter of a new story "Pinky and Rex and the Soccer Team." Students were tasked with using the settings and character traits from books read during the unit to create their own version of Pinky and Rex.
Phonics to Reading
Students in Room 206 have been practicing reading “short a” words. This week in Phonics to Reading, short a has been our main focus. We have played games, completed fun activities, sang songs, and practiced our writing skills while incorporating CVC words with the short a sound. These activities help students strengthen their phonics and early reading skills!
Measuring Units
Students in Grade 1 have been working on measuring using different non-standard units! They measured items like desks, bookshelves, and doors to figure out what was longer and shorter, and what furniture would fit where!
KELLY SCHOOL UPDATES
Animal Clay Art
The 3rd grade students at Kelly worked on creating clay animals out of simple forms and adding details using other materials to turn those simple forms into creative animals. Some students made families of animals while others made one animal and added clothing to it based on a funny book called "Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing" by Judi and Ron Barrett. It was really fun and engaging and we all loved seeing how they turned out.
Picture Walk
Second graders at the Kelly just started a new book this week --- a story told in letters written between a cat and a dog! Students in K201 started the week by doing a "picture walk" to notice and wonder things about the characters and format of the story.
Now they're analyzing what the characters' words, actions, and thoughts let them infer about the characters!
STEM Day
Students in 302 had such a good time on STEM Day practicing their coding skills and creating optical illusions!
Changemakers Unit
Second grade has started our new unit on changemakers! We have been learning about different people who have changed the world by inventing or discovering something new. First, we learned about Soichiro Honda and his motorcycles and cars. Next, we learned about Temple Grandin and her Hug Machine to support people with autism. We also learned about Julio C. Tello (Sharuko), the first archeologist of Peru! We can't wait to learn about more changemakers.

SharCADE!
It was arcade week in Physical Education at the Sokolowski School! The gym was turned into the Sokolowski ShARCADE! Students got to play PE versions of classic arcade games like Skeeball, Air Hockey, Pool, Arcade Basketball, Down the Clown and more! Students had a blast while they worked on their throwing, rolling and basketball skills. Each game also provided an opportunity to work on Physical Education Standard 3 which focuses on developing the social skills necessary to exhibit empathy and respect for others and foster and maintain relationships. In addition, students had to use their communication and sportsmanship skills when winning and losing. At the end of every game students gave each other a high five and said "Good Game" to their opponent. We even had some teachers join in on the fun!
Celebration at Sokolowski School
At Sokolowski School, teachers and students celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with joy and togetherness. We are a school open to all cultures, celebrating diversity every day.

CHS Pathways Update-Green Tech/Digital Ready
Chelsea High School launched the New Green Technology/Digital Ready Pathway Pilot in February, welcoming a cohort of students interested in the trades and exploring careers connected to the electrical field. Students are currently enrolled in an Introduction to Electricity course where they engage in hands-on learning and project-based activities that build foundational technical skills. As part of the experience, students also participate in field trips to industry sites to learn about different career pathways and hear directly from professionals in the field. In addition, participants are paid while they learn, gaining valuable work experience alongside their coursework. This pilot represents CHS’s first step in expanding high-interest career pathway opportunities that will continue to grow into a full, future-focused pathway program.
Pathways Update-Arts Pathway
Chelsea High School students recently participated in a field trip to Artists for Humanity (AFH) and MassArt to explore future opportunities connected to an Arts Pathway. During the visit, aspiring artists learned about a summer internship opportunity with AFH, where they can gain real-world creative experience while working alongside professional artists and designers. Students also learned about the opportunity to enroll in an Early College course with MassArt next school year, allowing them to begin earning college credit while developing their artistic skills. Experiences like this help connect students’ creative interests to meaningful postsecondary and career pathways in the arts.
Education Pathway - Job Shadow Days, The Future Educators of CPS!
The CHS Education Pathway students have been actively exploring the education profession through a series of meaningful, hands-on experiences across CPS schools. Their journey began at CHS, where they observed high school educators in action, gaining insight into classroom management, instructional strategies, and student engagement at the secondary level.
Building on this foundation, students expanded their perspectives through field trips to Wright and Brown Middle Schools. There, they witnessed the unique dynamics of middle school education, including developmental transitions and diverse teaching approaches tailored to younger adolescents. Their final visits took them to the Early Learning Center (ELC) and the Elementary Complex, where they observed early childhood and elementary educators fostering foundational skills in nurturing classroom environments.
In addition to these real-world experiences, students are strengthening their academic knowledge through college coursework. They are currently enrolled in Bunker Hill Community College classes, including Introduction and Foundations of Education and Child Growth and Development. These courses provide essential theoretical frameworks that complement their observations in the field.
To further support their success, students receive additional guidance and support through the Early College Academic Support Class, taught by Kris Torres. This supports students navigate both their college coursework and their career exploration.
Through this combination of observation, academic study, and mentorship, CHS Education Pathway students are gaining a comprehensive understanding of the education field and building a strong foundation for future careers in teaching.
