MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS

Dear Eagles and Families,

In recent weeks, we have noticed numerous instances of race-based, gender-based, nationality-based, and citizenship-based discrimination (among other forms of discrimination) in our society. Unfortunately, we have noticed a recent uptick of similar behaviors in our Lindblom community:

  • Calling someone by a name that they’ve asked you not to

  • Using racial slurs (the N - word, white girl, etc)

  • Writing/texting racial slurs

These types of behaviors are absolutely not tolerated in our school community. We want to take this opportunity to reflect on some of our “BE”lief pillars which guide our actions. We believe that with your support, our students will rise to the challenge of BEing INCLUSIVE and EMPOWERED to a) make choices which include and celebrate the diversity of our school community, and b) speak up when they notice discrimination of any kind. We have multiple opportunities this week where we have the opportunity to celebrate in community with one another and celebrate BEing INCLUSIVE:

  • Parent-teacher conferences on Monday, November 4th

  • Hispanic Heritage Assembly on Wednesday, November 6th

We know it’s easy to get caught up in the harmful rhetoric that has come with this election season. We believe that by reinvesting in our “BE”lief pillars, we can ensure that the Lindblom Community is one where our students, staff, and families feel loved, welcomed, and supported.

This past week also gave us moments to celebrate:

  • Our DoubleGood fundraiser raised $8,825.50! Thank you to everyone who sold and purchased popcorn to support our school community.

  • The Laugh & Swooport Comedy show was Saturday night, and ended with a $500 donation to Lindblom, which was matched for a total of $1,000 raised for Lindblom! We are so grateful for all of the alumni support that continues to reach back.

Sincerely,

Lindblom Administration

Student Spotlight

Special shout-outs for the Library Advisory Committee and the Writing Center students! They created such a scary, but fun Haunted House and we are grateful for their time and creativity. There was a lot of screaming going on!!! More shout-outs for the JROTC cadets! They were instrumental in providing themes for Halloween Spirit Week.

Drop Off/Pick Up

Students can be dropped off or picked up on Wolcott and Winchester. Double Parking is prohibited! Please be considerate of the handicap ramps on Winchester and DO NOT park in front of the ramp. There is Safe Passage surrounding the perimeter of Lindblom and we'd like to enforce a "Kiss and Go" to avoid traffic back-ups; therefore, consider use of alternate blocks (like Damen, 61st Street, etc) for ease of traffic.

Students may enter the building through Door 3 (on Wolcott) or Door 9 (on Winchester). Please be mindful that these are the only doors that students should exit during/after dismissal.

PAC/BAC Updates

Our PAC/BAC meeting on 10/10 featured a great performance from our Latino Dance team along with a presentation on post-secondary opportunities by one of our counselors, Mr. Clark. Once approved at our next PAC meeting, the recordings will be shared on our website.

A couple of quick PAC/BAC related updates:

  1. PAC would love to hear from all LMSA families! Please complete this quick survey to let us know how PAC can best collaborate to support our families. BAC is also sending a BAC-specific survey to our bilingual families.

  2. Our next hybrid PAC meeting will be Thursday, November 21st at 5:30pm.

  3. Lindblom’s CIWP is now public! You can check it out HERE.

Our BAC is working hard to support our families! Please see below for a few BAC updates:

  1. We are still working to fill three BAC vacancies! We still need a BAC President, Secretary, and Representative. If you are interested, please email AP Meadows, mmeadows@cps.edu.

  2. BAC would love to hear from all LMSA families! Please complete this quick survey to let us know how BAC can best collaborate to support our families.

Starting second semester, students with an unweighted GPA of 3.0 after 7 semesters can qualify for college-ready coursework without having to take a placement exam or have the requisite SAT score. Please consider if you have students who can take advantage of this increased opportunity to participate in early college coursework and if this new qualifier would make additional spring dual credit coursework more feasible.

Spring ‘25 Semester Dual Enrollment – Registration is OPEN*

  • Spring 16-Week Semester Registration is due January 6 and courses begin on January 13.

  • Spring 12-Week Semester Registration is due February 3 and courses begin on February 10.

Fall Cultivate Administration 10/30 - 11/15

The Cultivate Survey is currently open. We are encouraging parents to spend some time with their student to walk and talk through the survey until it's completed. This is an opportunity for parents to hear their student's perspective on classroom experiences, academic performance, identity development and their well-being. When your student finishes the survey, they will receive a "SURVEY COMPLETION" email. There will be 100 prizes awarded for parents that submit a photo of their student's completion email here.

This is the student survey link: https://survey.5-essentials.org/cps-fall24/

If it is giving you an error message, please try: http://survey.5-essentials.org/cps-fall24/survey/student/

Either link should work and take students directly to their log-in page. Students will need to enter their student ID and birth date to take the survey.

SAFETY UPDATE

It’s the time of year when the days are getting shorter and darkness comes early. For the safety of our students, we’re reminding you that our building closes at 5:30 pm. We often find students hanging around to mingle with friends and then they walk to the bus stop alone. We don’t recommend this behavior and we are concerned about it.

With the holiday season approaching, we'd like to give you a heads up that our building will close at 4:00 pm on November 22nd. Please make transportation arrangements that will support the time of our building closure.

REMINDERS

  • 11/4: Parent-Teacher Conference (Hybrid from 11 - 6:15 pm)
  • 11/5: No School (Election Day)
  • 11/14: Fall Play
  • 11/15: Fall Play
  • 11/25 - 11/29: No School (Thanksgiving Holiday)

Fight Like a Girl

We offer a free girls boxing program called Fight Like a Girl that uses the powerful sport of boxing to build discipline, confidence, and mind-body connection. Our program is staffed with trained boxing coaches and licensed therapists to make sure we are meeting the needs of all girls and helping them actualize their full potential in the gym, school, and life. Girls in the program will have the opportunity to sign up for free one-on-one therapy sessions.

Learn more about the program here: https://boxunited.org/pages/our-program

We have launched a new program in South Shore, and several Lindblom students have already enrolled. Because of the distance, we are providing transportation assistance to these students to get them to program every Tuesday. We still have space in our program and transportation support available for a few more Lindblom students. I would love to get the word out to any interested students. I have attached an informational flyer with a sign up link that can be distributed directly with students and families.
