Science in Action: Exploring Capillary Action Science in Action: Exploring Capillary Action

Our 6th graders got hands-on in science this week as they explored capillary action! Capillary action is the movement of a liquid through narrow spaces, often working against gravity. Using colored water, students were able to see this process happen right in front of them. It was a fun way to take what they’re learning in class and see the science in action!

Learning About Plagiarism and AI Learning About Plagiarism and AI

Our Upper School students have been learning about plagiarism and responsible AI use with Mrs. Tsvang through interactive plagiarism stations. Students read about famous plagiarism cases, discussed appropriate consequences, and explored how schools are addressing AI use. They summarized the outcomes of these cases and talked about what they can learn from them.

These conversations matter as we prepare our students for high school, college, and beyond. We want our students to understand that AI can be a helpful tool, but it should never replace their own thinking, creativity, or effort. Learning how to use these tools responsibly, give credit where credit is due, and produce work that is truly their own is an important part of becoming responsible and independent learners.

Our Student Union elections were held this week! Congratulations to all of our winners, and a big thank you to everyone who ran and put themselves out there.

It was so much fun listening to their speeches, seeing how they campaigned, and watching our students put their public speaking skills into action. These experiences help our students build confidence and leadership skills.

And the best news of all… they held their first meeting today, which means SNACK CART BEGINS NEXT WEEK! On Fridays, students may purchase items from the Snack Cart for $1.00 during lunch.

Spooktacular! Spooktacular!

Families, it’s almost time for one of our favorite nights of the year - Spooktacular! We’re looking forward to a fun evening together with hayrides, a bonfire, a magician, crafts, class stations, and lots more!

Spooktacular is sponsored by our wonderful Parents’ Association, and tickets will be purchased through Zeffy this year. Be sure to get your tickets so your family can enjoy the evening!

Because we will have a lot happening around campus, including tractors and hayrides, we want to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night. Please review the following rules with your children before arriving:

  1. Stay out of the fields. Please stay on the side of the property where your station is located. The fields are especially important to avoid because they are not Woodland's property.

  2. If you are not working at your class station, you should not be in the woods.

  3. No touching, jumping off, or jumping on hay wagons at any time.

  4. Stay off the road and away from the sides if tractors are going by.

  5. No blood, guns, knives, swords, or violence of any kind at your station.

  6. Be respectful and follow directions while riding the tractor during the hayrides.

  7. Do not harass or disturb another class station.

  8. No throwing anything on or off the hayrides.

  9. If a tractor stops in front of a class station, do not walk up to it.

  10. Students must participate at their assigned class station. Students may not join other class stations.

  11. Only students who are currently attending Woodland may participate in a class station.

  12. And, of course, make sure you vote for your favorite class station! Every vote counts!

We know everyone is excited to have a great night, and these rules are simply here to keep our students, families, volunteers, and staff safe. We also want to be respectful of the property that surrounds our campus. Please go over these expectations with your children ahead of time. We can’t wait for a fun night of Spooktacular family fun!
