Dean Tip of the Week:

Tardies

Effective time management is imperative for success in the classroom. Excessive tardiness will be met with a discipline response and students will meet with their dean and be assigned the following:

  • Students who accrue more than 7 tardies in a week will be placed on the Attend to Attend list. They will NOT be permitted to be a spectator at athletic events or activities.

  • Students who accrue more than 12 tardies in a month will be assigned Supervised Study.

  • Students who accrue more than 25 tardies in a month will be assigned Saturday School.

  • Any student assigned supervised study due to excessive tardies more than twice will be assigned Saturday School.

  • Tardies CANNOT be excused by a parent.

TIP: Students who get to class on time develop effective time management skills, understand the importance of classroom instruction and its positive impact on their future, and most importantly do NOT have to meet with their dean during their off time.

Substance Use Prevention

The More You Know…

Setting Boundaries Without Shaming

Teens are more likely to respect limits when they feel heard rather than judged. Set clear boundaries around substance use but avoid scare tactics or shame-based messages—they often backfire. Instead, use curiosity and empathy: ask open-ended questions like, “What are your thoughts on drinking at parties?” or “How do you feel when others offer you something to smoke?” Reflect their feelings and share your concerns calmly, emphasizing that your rules come from care, not control. Examples of healthy boundaries might include saying, “You need to check in with me if you’re going to a party where substances might be present,” or “I expect you to come home by a certain time, and if you’re not feeling well, we can talk about options.” Building trust helps keep communication open—even when it’s hard.

Did you know Cherry Creek School District has an Adolescent Substance Use Prevention, Intervention, Resources & Education (ASPIRE) Team of school health professionals that supports students and school communities with substance use prevention, intervention and education? If you feel your child is in need of support, reach out to your school for more information.

Support the Community Cupboard

As we kick off another year, the Creek Community Cupboard wants to thank the entire CCHS community. With everyone’s support, we are in our 6th year of supporting the Creek community and we were able to assist 1016 people last year. Additionally, the Cupboard helped provide food that was distributed to students through the Counseling Office.

Because of increased needs and how we were able to support our community, we will continue to schedule appointments for families to come in and select what they need. If you are in need of support, please complete the following: https://forms.gle/S5Vpztajn5cSGm5V6. We ask that parents complete the form by Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. for the week that they would like support. Students can speak to a faculty member at any time to receive support.

As always, we appreciate the support of the Cherry Creek community! As we kick off the year, we are critically low in all of our resources. If you would like to donate food or hygiene products, please click here for a list of what is needed: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NCGu9zXdxH9B4_ETbE40PeSGCTyO3pGEVc5m1dCvmdY/edit?usp=sharing

(Donations can be dropped off at any of the Security Kiosks)

If you would like to donate money, you can donate through My School Bucks:
