Centennial School District Celebrates Strong Academic Achievement and Growth Based on Preliminary 2024-2025 State and Local-level Data

Dear CSD Community:

We are thrilled to share preliminary 2024-25 academic achievement and growth data, which was presented at last night's school board meeting, and a copy of the presentation that showcases a robust recovery and impressive gains for our students since the COVID-19 pandemic! This success is a testament to our district’s "Evidence-Based Systems Approach" and consistent curriculum implementation, driven by our mission to build intellect, forge partnerships, and engage students to be Future Ready.

Highlights of Our Students' Success on the PSSA:

  • Mathematics Soars Beyond Pre-Pandemic Levels!
    • PSSA Mathematics achievement for grades 3-8 has increased by an impressive +16.8% from 2021 to 2025.
    • At 44.8% proficiency in 2025, our overall mathematics achievement now exceeds pre-pandemic levels (40.3% in 2019) and marks the highest scores since 2015!
    • Grade 4 Math showed a remarkable +25.4% increase from 2021.
    • This success is directly linked to 3-5 years of consistently implementing aligned curriculum like Eureka Math K-5 and CPM Math for Grades 6-10.
  • Promising English and Language Arts (ELA) Recovery, Strong in Upper Grades!
    • While overall ELA achievement is still below pre-pandemic levels, we saw a +2.6% increase over last year.
    • Grade 7 ELA shows a +6.1% increase from 2021 to 2025, now exceeding its 2019 level.
    • Grade 8 ELA has an even more substantial +10.4% increase from 2021 to 2025, is above its 2019 level, and has achieved its highest achievement since 2015!
    • These successes are attributed to consistently implementing aligned curricula like SpringBoard for ELA in these grades since 2020. We recognize that continued "time and consistency" are needed for lower elementary ELA achievement to rise.

Local Assessments Corroborate Growth:

Beyond state assessments, our local data reinforces these positive trends:

  • DIBELS (K-3 Reading): All grades K-3 scored above the end-of-year national benchmark, indicating improving early reading skills.
  • i-Ready (Grades 3-8 Reading & Math): Approximately 950 students moved into Tier 1 for reading, achieving 137% of their expected growth, and about 1,400 students moved into Tier 1 in mathematics, reaching 119% of their expected growth.
  • IXL (Grades 9-11 Reading & Math): High school students showed strong growth in reading across grades 9 and 10, with vocabulary growth in grade 11. All grades demonstrated improvement in Algebra and Geometry, and Grade 11 saw growth in Algebra 2.

A Systemic Approach to Success:

This significant progress is a direct result of our "Evidence-Based Systems Approach," which emphasizes that "no single program or isolated reform can substitute for a coherent, long-term, systems-wide approach to improving teaching and learning." Key foundations of this approach include clear goals, aligned curriculum, well-supported teachers, a positive school environment, and effective use of data. Our 2024-25 preliminary data demonstrate our 'Evidence-Based Supports’ work. We are incredibly proud of our students' resilience and the dedication of our educators. The systemic changes and consistent implementation of an aligned curriculum over the past five years have been critical in recovering from the pandemic's impact and exceeding pre-pandemic achievement levels in key areas, particularly mathematics. I encourage everyone to remain committed to high levels of collaboration and communication, frequent monitoring of teaching and learning, and a continuous pursuit of growth and improvement, all with the best interests of our students at heart.
