A well‑deserved recognition for a career that changed lives

Huge round of applause for our Bellflower Unified Teacher of the Year, Thomas Philips from Mayfair Middle & High! 👏🎉 @mayfair_busd

Last week, he was honored alongside the Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year…a well‑deserved recognition for a career that changed lives. Though he retired in June 2025, his legacy continues to shine in every classroom and performance.

As a co-founder of the 605 All‑Star Band @605_all_star_band that made history in the Rose Parade, Mr. Philips showed our students what excellence, teamwork, and heart look like. We miss him on campus, and we’re so proud to see him celebrated. 🌟

Congratulations, Mr. Philips!! Teacher of the Year! 🏆

Voice for Good Choices at Lindstrom

@lindstrom_lions came together for a “Voice for Good Choices” assembly! Students learned how to use their voices to lead with teamwork, respect, safety, perseverance, and kindness. We’re so proud of their growth…check out these photos from the assembly!

STEM Sprouts in Our Organic Garden at Woodruff

Fall is in full swing, and our Woodruff Wolves are diving into science and math through hands-on learning in the organic garden. From calculating planting distances and measuring growth to exploring compost and soil health, students are discovering the wonders of nature... right on campus.

Double the Fun on Twin Day at Baxter

Who knew Baxter had so many twins on campus yesterday? Twin Day brought big smiles, matching outfits, and plenty of school spirit. Happy Spirit Week!

Playworks Parent Night Builds Community at Foster

Playworks Parent Night was filled with information, curiosity, and fun. Families learned about the power of play, safe and inclusive recess, and easy games to try at home.

Thank you to Cravings on Wheels, the Stephen Foster PTA, and our partners at Playworks SoCal and the Playworks recess team for a fantastic event. We hope to see you at next month’s Parent Night.

Garden Learning Returns to Las Flores

EnrichLA is back at Las Flores and ready to kick off the fall gardening season. Students will plant cool-weather crops, learn about pollinators and compost, and connect science standards to real-life garden care. We’re excited for another season of outdoor learning.

Counselor Spotlight: Zones of Regulation at Ernie Pyle (Grade 4)

We love our counselor at Ernie Pyle! Fourth graders are learning the Zones of Regulation... building emotional vocabulary, identifying their “zone” (blue, green, yellow, red), and practicing check-ins throughout the day. Students explored strategies such as mindful breathing, movement breaks, positive self-talk, and asking for help, so they could return to the “green zone” and be ready to learn.

Mapping Ancient North Africa at Craig Williams

The 6th-grade students worked together to create detailed maps of the early civilizations of North Africa at Craig Williams. Through this hands-on project, students practiced essential geography skills like using map keys and legends, labeling major physical features, and identifying important settlements and trade routes. They explored how the Nile River, surrounding deserts, and the Mediterranean coastline shaped everyday life, culture, and commerce in ancient societies. It was a great blend of collaboration, critical thinking, and social studies in action!

Coordinators Appreciation Week at BMHS

Last week, BMHS celebrated Coordinators Appreciation Week in honor of our amazing Community School Coordinator, Dr. Scipio. Thank you, Dr. Scipio, for everything you do for our school community. Your dedication, support, and leadership are truly appreciated!
