Good Evening Mustang Families,

As we look ahead to another great week at McCullough Middle School, we are excited to have a full five-day week of learning, growth, and opportunities for our Mustangs to shine! Thank you, families, for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make every school day meaningful and successful. Tomorrow is McCullough Monday, and we encourage all students and staff to kick off the week by wearing their McCullough gear or school colors—red, black, white, and gray! Let's fill our hallways with Mustang pride and start the week with positive energy and a championship mindset!

Please take a few moments to review this week's Family Update for important reminders, upcoming events, and ways to stay connected with our Mustang community.

Week of 10/18 Exploratory Schedule

  • Monday, October 19th: A Day
  • Tuesday, October 20th: B Day

  • Wednesday, October 21st: A Day

  • Thursday, October 22nd: B Day

  • Friday, October 23rd: A Day

Upcoming Erin's Law Presentations in Health Class (click link)

Beginning in the coming weeks, students enrolled in Health class will participate in Erin's Law educational presentations, as required by Delaware Senate Bill 290, which expanded personal safety education for students in grades 6–12. These presentations will address personal body safety, sexual abuse, other forms of child abuse, and ways students can seek help and support. We recognize that families play an essential role in guiding their children and encourage parents and caregivers to have conversations about these important topics at home.

Hard copies of the parent letter linked above will be sent home with all students enrolled in Health this semester on Monday, October 19th. If you choose to opt your student out of the presentations, please sign the letter and have your child return it to Dr. Morris or Ms. Ringler no later than Thursday, November 5th.

Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week & Celebration

This week, McCullough Middle School is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a fun-filled Spirit Week and schoolwide celebration! Students and staff are encouraged to participate in each day's spirit theme (see flyer below) as we recognize the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Our celebration will conclude on Friday, October 23rd, with a special schoolwide assembly featuring cultural performances and student participation. We look forward to a wonderful week of cultural appreciation, unity, and Mustang PRIDE!

Backpack Program

At McCullough, we are committed to supporting our students both inside and outside of the classroom. Through our Weekend Backpack Program, participating students receive a bag of food items to take home each week to help provide additional support over the weekend. Families who would like their student to participate are encouraged to contact Mr. James Thomas, our Communities In Schools Site Coordinator, at James.Thomas@colonial.k12.de.us or 302-429-4000. Participation is confidential, and our goal is to ensure that every Mustang has the support they need to return to school each week ready to learn and thrive.

End of First Marking Period is Approaching

With the end of the first marking period approaching, now is an important time for students to remain focused, engaged, and committed to finishing strong. We encourage families to review grades and missing assignments in Infinite Campus, celebrate their students' accomplishments, and have conversations about areas where additional support may be needed. Daily attendance continues to be a priority, and we remain focused on reaching our goal of 95% attendance for every student! Every day in school is an opportunity to learn, grow, and move closer to success

Let's have an amazing week as a school community, and remember MUSTANGS RUN TOGETHER!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hyacinth Lewis, Principal
