One Quarter Down Three to Go!
The first quarter is officially completed! Parents and guardians will receive digital report cards via encrypted email for security purposes. To access your student’s progress report, you will need their student ID number to open the message. This is a wonderful opportunity to review your student’s performance and identify areas for improvement. Proviso West offers several resources to support academic success: Saturday school, after-school tutoring, and a 24/7 online tutoring program called Paper. We also encourage students to join extracurricular activities. Parents are encouraged to regularly check PowerSchool for updates on their student’s progress and attendance, and to contact teachers and counselors if needed. We also invite parents to get involved by attending school-sponsored events and joining parent organizations. We welcome all parents to partner with Proviso West to promote and ensure an academically engaging, safe and welcoming environment for all.
Proviso West Homecoming 2024
Proviso West Panthers showed their pride and spirit during Homecoming 2024, with a week of festivities that energized both students and staff. Spirit Week kicked off the celebrations, culminating in a spirited pep rally on Friday, where the choir, cheerleaders, and the Panther mascot performed alongside the Drumline and ROTC color guard. A DJ amped up the excitement, hosting a dance-off between students and staff. Saturday's events began with a vibrant parade through the streets of Hillside, followed by two impressive football games. The day concluded with the highly anticipated homecoming dance, themed "Red Carpet Ready.
Teen Summit
Proviso West students, including the Student Advisory Council and other student leaders, participated in a Leadership Teem Truth Summit aimed at fostering a positive culture and climate within the school. The summit’s goal was to empower student voices to improve the school’s environment through a student-driven campaign. Throughout the event, students engaged in various activities designed to support their mission of building a healthier and more inclusive school culture. The summit was led by Brandon McCall of Teen Truth.
During National Bullying Prevention Month in October, Proviso West hosted an assembly featuring speaker Brandon McCall, who focused on raising awareness about bullying. His presentation emphasized the importance of awareness, respect, and character in fostering a positive environment. Throughout the month, students and staff were encouraged to wear and share orange as a symbol of bullying prevention. Students also participated in activities promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to help build community throughout the year. One such activity involved creating paper chains links with positive, encouraging messages about preventing bullying and how everyone could play a role in stopping it.
Proviso Sports
The Proviso West girls' volleyball team faced off against Proviso East with a shared mission: raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of finding a cure. Both teams and their coaches displayed strong dedication to this cause, which was evident through the spirit and intensity of the matches. Proviso West emerged victorious in all games played that day, making it a memorable event on and off the court.

Proviso West Exceling in the Arts!
On October 18, 2024, the acclaimed Fisk University Chorus from Nashville, Tennessee, led by Dr. Christopher Duke, Choral Director and music lecturer, delivered a captivating concert at Proviso West High School's Kavanaugh Theater. The mini-concert was organized by Salena Watson, the music teacher and choir director at Proviso West. In addition to the university choir's stunning performance, the Proviso West choir also took the stage, showcasing their talent for the school community. The event brought a memorable day of music and collaboration for students, staff and guest.
Mr. Shipley's art classes have been busy creating beautiful pieces that demonstrate their hard work and creativity.
Drawing and Painting: Students used the 7 Elements of Art to create designs which demonstrated the meaning of the elements and then creatively applied them to a 3-D box in the style of their choice. Students added color to each design by using different color schemes which ultimately brought the entire box into a cohesive 3-D project. (PARENTS-want to see your student's artwork, then please look for the email from ARTSONIA which explains how you can set up a parent account and get notified when your student adds artwork. Students are required to add the pictures on Artsonia for every project).
