7th Grade Boys Basketball at Alma on 2/20

The Hemlock 7th Grade Boys Basketball B Team fell at Alma in a lopsided game. Several of our players are dealing with or coming back from illness and it really showed on Tuesday.

The A team was down two players, but received contributions from Dylan Roka and depth security from Hayden Massa, making an outstanding game out of adverse conditions. The team played extremely hard, but lost by one point. The Huskies had a good look at a last second shot, but it did not fall our way. Cal McFadden was a force down low on both ends of the floor.

8th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Alma on 2/20

The Hemlock 8th grade B team had their final game against Alma last night in a close defensive battle. Sickness and injury plagued our boys but it did not stop any of them from competing. Isaiah Stienert had a Michael Jordan flu game the way he was playing, leading the Huskies in scoring with six points. Roman Smith, Tristyn Church, and Jaydon Polom all added in a few points which were assisted by Max Martenez or Jacob Casey. Aiden Trinklein also had his best game of the season playing strong defensive and adding a pullup jumper that was smooth like butter. Unfortunately fatigue caught up with the huskies and Alma was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Hemlock was not able to come back and lost 30-25 bringing them to a sound record of 3-1 for the B team season.

In the second matchup of the night our Hemlock A team also looked to snatch a win from the top seeded Alma A boys. This game showcased both Hemlock and Alma’s high powered offenses scoring a total of 104 points total in the game between the two teams! Kellan Schultz led in scoring for our team with his season high 17. Blake Willman also majorly contributed with 14 points of his own. Sam Dunton is a DAWG, scoring his season high six points and not backing down to the pressure. Bentley Baumer and Cooper Gensch were also contributing with fantastic defense and assists to their teammates. It was good to see Markus Plowden back for the huskies in this game. Markus’s leadership and energy is the ship that drives Hemlock’s team forward and competing. In the end the Huskies were not able to hold on, and Alma pulled away in the fourth quarter. Hemlock losses 44-60. In the post game press conference with Coach Hagenow he had this to say about what a loss like this does in the back half of the season.

“It keeps us hungry and Ithaca better watch out because we have something to prove.”

End Quote.

7th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Ithaca on 2/21

The 7th grade boys played their final games on Wednesday at Hemlock versus the Ithaca Yellowjackets. The B Team started the game with a 0-13 deficit after the 1st quarter, but fought back to a 9-13 halftime score. Wesson Graves kept the Huskies close in the 3rd quarter, hitting two exciting 3 pointers. Led by Andrew Reid, the Huskies were all hustle and determination, but the team came up short, losing 17-21.

The A-Team lost a tight game 33-37 to Ithaca. The Huskies had plenty of opportunities to gain control of the game, but just could not get the ball to find the basket often enough. Cal McFadden scored 12 points and hauled in 12 rebounds. Bo Galbraith hit two 3 pointers and scored a total of 8 points. Paxton O'Dell and Ethan Wenzel each scored 4 points in the loss.

8th Grade Boys Basketball at Ithaca on 2/21

The Huskies faced the yellowjackets in a heartbreaking final game of the eighth grade season. Our Hemlock stars came out slow in the first quarter but soon turned on the jets giving them a 28-25 point lead going into halftime. In the second half, the game went back and forth with both teams not being able to pull away. Kellan Shultz and Blake Willman once again dominated on offense scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds from Shultz and 12 points from Willman. Roman Smith also provided a spark for the Huskies scoring all eight of his points in the second quarter and right on his tail was Markus Plowden with his season high 7 points. Sam Dunton also helped to add key buckets in the fourth quarter to keep the game close. Unfortunately the Huskies lose their final game of the season 55-54 in heartbreaking fashion. This brings the A team record to a solid 7-5 for the season. The Eighth grader’s in total had a record of 10-6 between both the A and the B team.

Feel free to come cheer on the Hemlock eighth graders this Tuesday, February 27th in a Blue versus White matchup!
