Message from Principal Fippin

Hi everyone,

It was another busy week at BCE. It was great to be back after a week off. The school year is going by so fast. We have only 60ish days left of school. Today we had sunshine and lots of butterflies at recess! Spring is almost here and it is a busy time of year. It is our last big push to support our students. Report cards will be going home next Friday 3/6. If you have any questions please reach out to your teacher. It is a great time to reflect on all of the work our BCE Bears have done.

We had our monthly awards assembly this morning. Thank you to all the parents that joined us and congrats to all those who showed amazing RESPECT this month.

Have a great weekend.

Gerri Fippin,

Principal BCE

PBIS- Help our BCE Bears learn to be respectful and safe online!

Family Education Night – this Thursday!

We invite families to attend a Family Education Night focused on keeping children safe online. Our school is partnering with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department to offer the Vigilant Parent Program, which provides valuable information about technology safety, social media, gaming, and current online risks for children. Use the QR code above to register. There is free childcare and pizza for parents who attend!

At our school, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) helps students practice being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. in all settings—at school, at home, and online. As technology and video games continue to be part of children’s daily lives, we want to partner with families to support safe and healthy technology habits for our elementary students.

Be SAFE Online:

  • Choose age-appropriate games and apps and review game ratings together.

  • Monitor or turn off online chat and messaging features when possible.

  • Remind students never to share personal information (name, school, address, passwords, photos).

  • Encourage children to tell a trusted adult if something online makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Be RESPECTFUL Online:

  • PBIS expectations apply online just like at school—kind words and actions matter.

  • Talk with children about respectful language while gaming or messaging.

  • Help them understand that mean behavior online is not okay and should be reported to an adult.

Be RESPONSIBLE with Technology:

  • Set clear limits for screen time, especially before bedtime.

  • Keep devices in shared family spaces when possible.

  • Balance technology use with reading, outdoor play, and family time.

  • Remind students that technology is a privilege and should be used appropriately.

Technology Monitoring Support for Families

Some families find it helpful to use monitoring tools to support safe technology use. One option is the Bark app, which can help parents monitor online activity, screen for potential safety concerns, and open conversations with children about responsible technology use. Using tools like this—along with regular family conversations—can help keep our students safe.

Hope to see you on March 5th!

Mrs. Anderson

We are the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) teachers and Instructional Aides form Boulder Creek Elementary School, and we are so excited to welcome new learners!! If you have a child who will turn 4 before September 1st, they are eligible for TK and we are happy to enroll them!!

Tk is a wonderful bridge between preschool and kindergarten. Our classrooms focus on social emotional growth, early literacy and math skills, and lots of hands-on, play-based learning in a a positive and nurturing environment. Best of all it's part of the public school system- so it's free!

If you're still deciding between preschool and TK or have any questions about TK, please email us or call the BCE Office at 831-338-6413. We love helping families make the best decision for their little ones.

Look forward to a great year of learning and growing together!!

Don't Forget the Rules for Drop off and Pick up

Drop Off and Pick Up

We have had several issues the past couple of weeks at both drop off and pick up. Please know that all of us out at the cross walk are only trying to keep our students and families safe. I wanted to remind everyone to please first be Kind and Patient. Here are a few reminders about pick up and drop off

  • You can drop off on either side of Laurel Street.
  • You can NOT drop off coming up on Lomond street.
  • You can only leave your car in designated parking spots on Laurel street.
  • Make sure you are not parking in front of our neighbors drive ways
  • On Lomond Street, you need to park in the right direction. Buses are not able to get through when cars are away from the side and parked in the wrong direction.
  • When walking down Lomond Street please use the sidewalk. We have had a few close calls with kids and parents walking in the center of the street.

Thank you everyone for helping ensure safety of all of our students. Below is the parking map again for reference.
