📝 Principal's Corner
Straight from the Top!
This month, we will be celebrating many exciting things, including careers in the military, college, and the workforce. As part of this celebration, we are looking for guest speakers to come and share with our students about their careers—what it takes to get there, the benefits of the job, and the opportunities available in their field.
In addition, we are excited to announce our big fundraiser- The Big Give! All proceeds will go directly to our Scholarship Fund, which supports our graduates. Eligible students can earn up to $600 per semester when they maintain good grades, strong attendance, and active participation in community service. Look at our list of events to see how you can support the cause!
Together, let’s inspire our students and invest in their future success!
💙 SWPREP Core Value of the Month
Patriotism
Student Focus:
"I show respect and love for my country by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each day and honoring the values it stands for."
Why it matters:
Patriotism reminds us that we’re part of something bigger than ourselves. Taking a moment each day to pledge our allegiance isn’t just a routine—it’s a chance to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibilities we share as American citizens.
Real-World Reward:
Showing respect for our country builds character, unity, and pride that extends beyond the classroom. These qualities help you become a thoughtful, engaged citizen—traits that will serve you well in college, your career, and your community.
💛 Capturing Kids Hearts Trait of the Month
Empathy
What is Empathy?
Empathy is understanding and feeling what others are experiencing.
Why focus on Empathy?
Empathy builds a positive classroom culture and strengthens their relationships with others. It also prepares your students to be leaders in their community.

Reminders and More
We need your help in completing a few important items:
✅ Child Nutrition Household Income Survey Forms – Please take a moment to complete and return these forms. They help us ensure that every student receives the support they need.
✅ New Cell Phone Policy Acknowledgment Forms – These must be signed and turned in so we have record that families are aware of the updated policy.
📱Need help logging into the new app? Some parents are running into trouble because they don’t know their student’s ID number. Don’t worry—just give Ms. Terry a call, and she’ll be happy to provide that information. Phone: 830.549.5930
🧠 Counselor’s Connection!
Guidance Goodies
Helping Your Child Set Goals & Embrace Challenges
As the school year gets underway, September is the perfect time to help your child set meaningful goals—both academically and personally. Many students fall into the mindset of doing “just enough to pass,” but long-term success comes when they challenge themselves to go beyond the minimum.
You can encourage your child by asking questions like:
What do you want to accomplish this semester?
What’s one area you’d like to improve in?
How can I support you in reaching your goal?
For our middle and high school families, goal-setting also connects directly to our College and Career Scholarship Program. Students who commit to excellent attendance, strong academics, positive behavior, and volunteering can earn up to $300 each semester to support their future college, trade, or technical school plans.
This month, as we begin fundraising for the scholarship program, we encourage you to talk with your child about setting one academic and one personal goal. Your guidance and encouragement make all the difference in helping them see challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities to grow and succeed.

🎓 Parent University: Schools + Families = Student Success
Helping you help your child succeed, one step at a time.
At Southwest Prep, we believe schools and families work best when we partner together for student success.
That’s why we’re excited to launch Parent University, a video series designed to give parents practical tools, tips, and techniques to support their child’s learning.
Our first video, Strong Days Start with Good Nights, focuses on one of the most important foundations for school success—sleep. The video explains how quality rest fuels children’s brains and bodies, helping them focus, learn, and manage their emotions throughout the day.

🌟 Student Spotlight
This month, we proudly shine our Student Spotlight on Seth Ruiz, a 12th grader who has been part of the Southwest Prep family for the past five years. Seth is known for his kindness, responsibility, and quiet leadership that set a strong example for his classmates.
Outside of school, Seth enjoys crafting and listening to music. Looking ahead, he plans to find a good job and work hard to become the best employee he can be. His thoughtful outlook on life is shaped by wisdom passed down from his grandmother, who always told him to “spread kindness everywhere and good will always find you.” That lesson is evident in his actions—like giving his Eagle Bucks to younger students or stepping up to help when things get out of hand.
Seth says responsibility isn’t something that was handed to him—he chose it. Whether it’s caring for his siblings at home or showing respect to his teachers by addressing them properly and completing his work, Seth lives out Southwest Prep’s core values of respect, responsibility, and service each day.
When asked what advice he would give to younger students, Seth shared: “You don’t have to do everything on your own.” His favorite part of being at Southwest Prep is the friendships and support from staff, and while he looks forward to the future, he admits: “I’m going to miss everyone here.”
Principal Sarah Schwab shared, “Seth is a true leader who shines not by what he keeps, but by what he gives. His willingness to help others and his selfless spirit remind us that the greatest reward is in sharing success.”
Seth, thank you for your kindness, respect, and leadership. You are a shining example of our core values, and we are excited to see the great things ahead for you!
