Principal's Update

This week was a short one and rainy at that, yet the Braintree energy still ran high! On Tuesday, teachers had an inservice day with our district curriculum coaches in order to analyze fall data and plan for student needs.

Thank you to all of the families who were able to attend conferences! You are your child's first teachers, and maintaining a partnership is essential to student progress.

Our first Family Council meeting will be Monday, 10/17 right after school in the Braintree Elementary library. We would love for you to join us! If you can't make this one but are still interested, shoot me an email (psprague@orangesouthwest.org), and I'll send out the meeting notes.

I'm looking forward to seeing families at Pumpkin Carving Night! As you'll read below, we're opening our new farmstand that evening. You will find exciting goodies like the potpourri students are making in this picture and some corn and bean salsa that I can personally attest is *fantastic*!

From Nurse Brooke

As we get ready for winter, we can’t forget to prepare our immune systems! This year Gifford Pediatrics and the OSSD are teaming up to increase access to the annual flu vaccine. Braintree’s Flu Clinic for students is taking place on Wednesday, October 26. Hardcopies of handouts for signup were sent home. Please contact Brooke Naylor, BSN, RN at bnaylor@orangesouthwest.org with any questions.

Farmstand Update

We are excited to announce that the new farmstand has a name: Braintree Blossoms. The grand opening will be at our Pumpkin Carving event on October 27th. Each class is making a treat to sell (like the sunflower seeds roasted by sixth graders who volunteered on a day off!), and we'll also have products available made from donated local goods.

Kindergarteners are learning how to compare numbers using "greater than" and "less than".

Second graders counted and compared large numbers by breaking them into smaller groups, in this case groups of 10.

Ms. Barrett taught 4th, 5th, and 6th graders some fun new math games.

Skyjo is a great game to have around the house to build mathematical thinking.

Racko is another excellent game that builds logic and ordering skills.

Tea Time!

Third graders earned a reward for following classroom PAWS expectations. They enjoyed tea and watched The Blue Whale, a read-aloud of a nonfiction text about whales.

Friends of Music Booster Club Info from Carolyn Howard

We are getting the band back together! After having a few years without a music booster club at RUHS, our funds are diminished, and we are excited to start a “Friends of Music” booster club for the whole OSSD! This group will help raise funds to support all of our music students across the district, and we are hoping to have parents/guardians from all 4 schools join us. The funds will be used to repair/purchase instruments, help students with rentals and supplies, organize trips, and much more!

If you are interested in joining, email choward@orangesouthwest.org with your name and phone number, and/or join us for our first meeting on Wednesday, October 19th at 7 PM in the RES Music Room. Even if you can’t make this first meeting, please consider joining and send me an email. I will also set up a Google Meet for those who can’t physically make it to the meeting to join us from home. We look forward to working with you to support our OSSD music students!
