Garfield will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30, 2026 with a Costume Parade before dismissal - pick-up, starting at 2:45pm. The parade will take place on our grass field. Parents are, of course, invited to share in the fun.

Halloween costume day at school should be a joyous day for our students! As a staff, we are always evaluating activities that build community, connectedness and fond memories into the school day; we also monitor the impact on instructional programs.

Please assist this endeavor by ensuring that your students' costume is school appropriate. Keep in mind that a costume for a party, carnival or trick or treating may be a bit different than a costume worn to school. Garfield serves students, UTK-5th grade, thus, we have students as young as four years old who will see classmates’ costumes. What may not be scary to an β€œolder” student may be off-putting for a primary student. Additionally, in the school setting, it is important that we promote age appropriate themes.

Common sense is the best approach. The guidelines below should help:

  1. No guns, knives or the like

  2. No β€œspewing”, dripping blood

  3. No frightening masks

  4. Characters that are appropriate to a β€œG” type rating

If you are in need of a costume or have a costume to donate, please stop by our Grizzly Exchange (to the left of front entry doors), open every Friday after school.
