Enriching and Strengthening Family Life Through Education and Play

The Weymouth Child Family Community Center provides support to families from birth through school age. We provide access to comprehensive services, child development information, and educational opportunities to parents and caregivers. Our playgroups and programs are designed to raise awareness on the importance of family engagement while teaching important literacy, STEM and school readiness skills. As a parent or caregiver, you are your child's first and most important teacher! We are here to support you in this role!

Weymouth CFCE Strengthens Families:

1.Each family is unique and all families represent diverse structures.

2.Diversity is expressed and experienced at multiple levels.

3.Building a respectful, trusting, and reciprocal relationship is the shared responsibility.

4.Families are their child’s first and best advocate.

5. Family engagement must be equitable.

Just play is a 45 minute parent and child playgroup. This playgroup will allow parents the opportunity to help develop their child’s social skills by engaging with their child in our various play centers. This program will also help with school readiness skills, expectations and classroom rules such as sharing, taking turns, choosing a toy or center and cleaning it up before moving on. All while having fun!

Bear Feels Sick

When bear isn't feeling well, his loyal and trustworthy friend's stop by to help him to "get well soon"

This story offered a good opportunity to talk with the children about covering their coughs and sneezes, so we don't spread germs.

Story Time Playgroup helps your child’s development in many ways.

  • Storytime has many benefits for children other than promoting early literacy and language development. It can help develop their concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity.

  • Play based learning recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in meaningful and enjoyable content. As children play, they engage their imagination, take risks and learn problem solving to support their development.

  • A music- rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving bring serious benefits to children as they progress to more formal learning.

STEM STEM

NOT A BOX NOT A BOX

zoom_out_map

NOT A Box raises questions about the imagination. How do we use our imagination? This book provides a great example of how someone can play with an object and pretend it is many things, as well as providing a great basis for a discussion about the role of imagination in our everyday lives.

During our STEM lesson on "NOT A BOX" we were joined by the students from the Alternative Pathways Program. Each child was paired up with a partner and given a box to then use their imagination to think of what their box could become. Then it was time to get creative! A variety of materials were made available for the children to use and transform their box into various objects from their imagination.

Mindful Movement Mindful Movement

Give your child the gift of balance through our Mindful Movements programs. Our yoga programs help children learn poses that increase strength, flexibility and coordination as well as breathing techniques. We offer 2 separate yoga programs, one for children ages birth - 3 yrs and another program for 4 & 5 year old's.

Each week the children learn new poses that represent the characters in our weekly story. All programs end with a Savasana. Savasana is the final resting pose at the end of each yoga program.

Super Friend Academy Super Friend Academy

Our Super Friend Academy program focuses on Social/Emotional learning and transitions to preschool. Super Friend Academy takes place in person at the WCFCC Center which is located at the old Abigail Adams School and has 2 cohorts.

This 4 week transition to preschool program prepares children for the routines and structure found in the preschool setting. Components of Positive Behavior Strategies (PBS) are embedded into programing. Strategies include: teaching and encouraging expected behavior, establishing classroom routines and rituals using visual supports and using school wide expectations and classroom rules. Students that attend will participate in an abbreviated PreK day which includes circle time, a story, and activity centers. A snack from home should be brought with them to have during our daily snack time. This program is appropriate for 3 and 4 yr. olds that are currently not enrolled in a daycare or preschool setting. Families may choose the 2 day program which meets on M/W from 12:00-1:15 or the T/Th program that meets from 9:00-10:15
