Serving Up More Than Meals: Celebrating Our Nutrition Services Team! Serving Up More Than Meals: Celebrating Our Nutrition Services Team!

User uploaded image

October 12th-16th was National School Lunch Week, an opportunity to recognize the people who work behind the scenes each day to make sure our students have access to healthy, nourishing meals.

In the Scappoose School District, our Nutrition Services staff do so much more than prepare and serve food. They create welcoming cafeteria environments, respond to the needs of our students, and work hard to provide meals that help students stay focused, energized, and ready to learn.

We especially appreciate the work our Nutrition Services team has done to support the continued success of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. Providing free breakfast and lunch to all SSD students has made nutritious meals more accessible to our students and families and has allowed our schools to serve more meals throughout the district.

We are grateful for the care, teamwork, and commitment our Nutrition Services staff bring to their work every day. Their dedication and impact can be seen and felt in our cafeterias, classrooms, and throughout every corner of our schools.

What a week of Homecoming fun! Scappoose spirit was out in full force as students and staff brought this year’s Hunger Games theme to life with incredible energy, creativity, and enthusiasm all week long! From spirited dress-up days and an electric pep rally to a Homecoming Parade filled with community pride, the excitement was contagious! And the weather couldn't have been better, with warm sunshine making for a picture-perfect fall celebration!

The excitement continued with a HUGE win on the football field and a fun-filled Homecoming Dance to wrap up the festivities! From our classrooms to the parade route, the stands, and beyond, it was an awesome display of the school spirit and community pride that make Scappoose such a special place to call home!

A Hoot of a Time with the Bird Alliance! A Hoot of a Time with the Bird Alliance!

Just in time for Halloween, our 5th graders welcomed some special visitors from the Bird Alliance of Oregon! Students learned what makes a bird different from a mammal, explored the similarities and differences between owls and bats, and even got an up-close look at preserved specimens of these fascinating creatures! It was a fun, hands-on learning experience that sparked plenty of curiosity and great conversations!

A big thank-you to the Bird Alliance of Oregon for sharing their knowledge and to SEPO for making this special visit possible!

Sparking Curiosity: SCFS Students Power Up Their Learning! Sparking Curiosity: SCFS Students Power Up Their Learning!

South Columbia Family School K–8 students recently wrapped up a schoolwide electricity unit inspired by The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip. This interdisciplinary unit brought together reading, science, and hands-on learning, giving students across grade levels opportunities to explore how electricity works and how it powers our world.

Some highlights of the unit included:

  • Cross-grade reading partnerships: Students partnered with peers from different grade levels to read and explore The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip together.

  • Hands-on science experiments: Students conducted classroom experiments to investigate electricity and deepen their understanding of scientific concepts.

  • A schoolwide field trip to Bonneville Dam: Students visited the dam to learn about hydropower and see how electricity can be generated using the power of water.

  • An OMSI presentation: OMSI visited our school for their Itty Bitty Electrons presentation, giving students another engaging, interactive opportunity to explore electricity.

We loved seeing students across grades K–8 connect their reading and classroom learning to real-world applications. The unit also provided a wonderful opportunity to build connections across grade levels and foster curiosity through shared experiences.

Supporting Your Student’s Health and Well-Being Supporting Your Student’s Health and Well-Being

At Scappoose School District, we believe families play an important role in supporting students as they develop the knowledge, skills, and healthy habits they need to thrive. As part of this commitment, our district uses an adopted K–6 Health curriculum designed to provide students with age-appropriate learning experiences that support their physical, social-emotional, and overall well-being.

We know that families may have questions about what students are learning in health class and how these topics are addressed at different grade levels. We want you to have access to the same resources our teachers use so you can better understand the curriculum, preview learning materials, and engage in conversations with your student at home.

Below, you will find resources related to our adopted K–6 Health curriculum, including information about the curriculum, grade-level learning, and materials students may encounter throughout the school year. We encourage you to explore these resources and use them as a starting point for conversations with your child.

Health education is most meaningful when schools and families work together. If you have questions about the curriculum or would like additional information about what your student will be learning, please reach out to your child’s teacher or school administrator. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and healthy habits they need to be successful.

2026-2027 SSD Bus Routes 2026-2027 SSD Bus Routes

A quick reminder: We start off assuming that ALL students will be riding the bus unless families tell us otherwise. So, please take a moment to log in to ParentVUE and update your information, including whether your student will be using our bus services.

We know that pick-up and drop-off times are important and our transportation partner, First Student, does its best to create route timetables that correlate with parent/guardian information in ParentVUE.

PLEASE NOTE: Timetables are subject to change slightly as we move forward through the first few weeks of school as additional students are added or removed as bus riders. We will communicate those changes as we receive the updates.

Wednesday/early release routes: for PM times on Wednesdays, you can subtract one hour from the PM schedule.

FirstView 1.0 Bus Tracking: If you are interested in the FirstView 1.0 Bus Tracking App, please navigate to our district webpage HERE for more information.

If you have questions about pick-up or drop-off locations, please contact First Student at 971-290-4020.
