Dear NCE Families,
October brings many opportunities for our Jaguars to learn, celebrate, and connect. Thank you for the many ways you support our school community! A special thank-you to Jennifer St. Jean for continuously refreshing the planters in front of our school. Her care makes our entrance welcoming for everyone who visits NCE!
Fostering Community
We look forward to the Character Parade, Scholastic Book Fair, Talent Show, and Trunk or Treat this month. Families are invited to watch the Character Parade from the front of the school. Students will exit through the playground gate and return through the gym doors. The parade will begin at 8:15 a.m. and end once all students have re-entered the building so classes can return to instruction. The front office will be closed from 8:05–8:20 a.m. that day so staff can participate. Please plan accordingly.
Encouraging Growth
Friday, October 2, is a required staff workday. There is no school for students. Our staff will use the day to plan instruction that meets students’ needs. Kindergarten through second-grade teachers will focus on ways to tailor reading instruction. They will use what they know about students’ progress to plan support in hearing and working with sounds in words, reading smoothly and accurately, understanding what they read, and sounding out unfamiliar words. Fourth- and fifth-grade teachers will look at information from several sources to make thoughtful decisions about what students need next.

Students will take a 20-question elementary-level trivia quiz.
The 8 students who score the highest will make the team!

🎉 First Practice: Tuesday October 6th 3:00 - 4:00
🎉Second Practice: Tuesday October 13th 3:00 - 4:00
📌Matches will take place on Wednesday’s after school in Ms. Bonds classroom 3-4 pm
📌There are 6 total matches.
📌The first match is Wednesday Oct 14, 2026 .
📌The last match will be Wednesday Nov 18, 2026.
Students must provide their own transportation home after practices and virtual meets.
⚠ Important You must have parent permission to try out. Please complete the
section below and return it with your child, or provide permission by emailing Ms. Bonds
I give ___________________ permission to try out for Quiz Bowl October 5, 2026. (tryouts are
during school) If my child makes Quiz Cats I will be able to provide transportation on the days of
practices/virtual meets. The first practice will be Tuesday October 6 and the second practice is
October . Practice and the virtual meets will take place in Ms. Bonds classroom that is located

We are inviting parents who are interested to be part of our Science Fair Committee. The committee will plan activities and help set up and break down the event.
